Chapter 721: The Flower Shop
"I know what you’re thinking, but unfortunately, your threats to me are no different than those of a pet dog. Even if I end up with nothing from Father, don’t forget that I can get more from my mother than you could possibly have in your lifetime," Claude said expressionlessly to Marian, who was full of malice.
"Slap!"
Claude slapped Marian hard across the face, not holding back even though she was his sister and a woman. A red handprint immediately appeared on Marian’s face.
"I remember telling you not to let me hear anything about my mom from your mouth. Since you can’t remember, I’ll have to make you remember this way. Remember, this is the last time. If it happens again, I’ll have to take extreme measures," Claude said seriously, ignoring Marian’s furious gaze.
After speaking, Claude didn’t care about the fierce look Marian gave him. He turned around, walking away while wiping his hand as if he were wiping off some trash.
Marian was left standing in place, clutching her face, her eyes red as she watched Claude’s back.
"Just you wait, I’ll make you pay, absolutely," Marian said viciously, watching Claude’s back.
Meanwhile, Xu Ke left the Calvin home after having lunch.
Holland is an especially romantic city. When you’re in Holland, you’re captivated by the romantic atmosphere around you, and soon you become a part of it.
Holland is marked by three things: its romantic sentiments, its slow-paced lifestyle, and its endless fields of flowers.
It’s unlike any country Xu Ke has visited. It’s as romantic as a gently flowing stream, and everything here moves at a leisurely pace, causing people to slow down as well.
After leaving the Calvin home, Xu Ke wandered around the town. The slow life in Holland gave Xu Ke a sense of long-lost relaxation. The more he walked, the more he liked this place, even starting to think about buying a house here to live in each year for some time.
While Xu Ke was aimlessly wandering, a flower shop caught his attention.
The flower shop wasn’t large, nor was it in a noticeable location, but it had a magical charm that made you not want to leave after taking one look.
Sometimes, Xu Ke is a rather spontaneous person. He liked the shop and decided to go in.
The sound of wind chimes rang as Xu Ke entered. Inside, a woman in a floral dress sat in the midst of flowers like a fairy mistaken for a mortal. Seeing someone enter, she looked up at Xu Ke and said with a smile, "Take your time looking, and call me if there’s anything you like." Then she bowed her head and continued arranging the flowers in her hands.
Xu Ke didn’t know why he came in; he just felt the flower shop was comforting and stepped inside. If the shop owner had been overly enthusiastic, Xu Ke might have felt awkward. But since she let him look around on his own, Xu Ke was comfortable and even started to think about buying a bouquet.
Soft music flowed through the flower shop, and in a good mood, Xu Ke wandered slowly. Just then, something bumped into his calf, and a soft object sat on his foot, hugging his leg.
Xu Ke looked down and met the eyes of a new little appendage on his leg.
Sitting on Xu Ke’s foot was a very tiny little girl with pigtails and a pink dress. Her green eyes were as clear as a lake. Seeing Xu Ke look at her, she shyly buried her head in Xu Ke’s leg, appearing as cute as a white dumpling.
The little dumpling’s small hand clutched Xu Ke’s pant leg, and her small face rubbed against his leg. Xu Ke curiously observed this sudden little child; it was his first time encountering such a small kid.
The little dumpling rubbed against him for a while, then couldn’t resist looking at Xu Ke for his reaction. She slyly peeked up at him, saw him smiling, and buried her head again. After playing this simple game with her twice, the dumpling giggled.
The woman immersed in her work heard the child’s laughter and quickly looked around the shop with alert eyes. Seeing her child playing with Xu Ke, she relaxed and moved the flowers on her lap aside, walking towards her child.
She picked up her daughter, who was still clinging to Xu Ke, and gave Xu Ke an apologetic smile. "Sorry, my daughter is a little naughty. I hope she hasn’t disturbed you. Tell you what, whatever flowers you choose today, I’ll wrap them for free," she said with a smile.
"No need, the child is cute. May I touch her face?" Xu Ke, softened by the little girl’s soft face, asked.
"Lily, do you want to let this brother touch your face?" the shop owner gently asked her daughter.
The little girl seemed not quite able to speak yet, her mouth turning up happily, her long lashes fluttering like butterfly wings, making excited sounds.
Seeing her daughter’s reaction, the shop owner couldn’t help but laugh. "Go ahead and reach out; she agreed."
Looking at the little girl’s tender white face, Xu Ke, to his surprise, felt nervous. He carefully stretched out a finger towards her face.
Before Xu Ke’s hand touched her face, the little girl’s small, soft hand grabbed his finger, and she made a triumphant laugh, pulling his finger towards her.
Afraid of hurting her, Xu Ke cautiously followed her lead. The next moment, the little girl opened her mouth, with red lips and glistening drool, about to bite Xu Ke’s finger when the shop owner gently stopped her and somehow produced a pacifier, putting it into the baby’s mouth to deter her jaw from biting his finger.
"I’m sorry, she’s young and loves to bite things," the shop owner apologized again with a smile.
"It’s okay, I don’t mind. May I ask how old she is? She looks quite small," Xu Ke asked gently, looking at the pacifier-chewing, happy little girl.
"My daughter is two years and two months old. You look young yourself. Are you married?" the shop owner curiously asked Xu Ke, then realized the nature of her question, blushing and hastily explaining, "I didn’t mean anything by it; you just seem young and fond of children, so I was curious. I hope I didn’t offend you."
