Chapter 716 - 715: The Competition

"Why haven’t you come up yet? Are you scared? Scared that you’ll lose to me?" Xu Ke looked at the other person with his head tilted, a slight smile in his eyes. It was supposed to be a very pleasing and beautiful scene, and quite a few people in Holland who weren’t fond of Xu Ke secretly blushed.
But only one man didn’t perceive how charming Xu Ke’s smile was; he only felt that the whole smile was extremely annoying, as it was taunting him and forcing him to get in the game. In his mind, a conspiracy theory began to form, thinking that perhaps this person knew he would definitely not pass the test, and was intentionally dragging him down to ruin his job opportunity.
Thinking he had figured out Xu Ke’s intentions, the man’s eyes brimmed with intense disgust as he stared at Xu Ke, "You’re truly despicable," the man said viciously, looking at Xu Ke’s face.
Being suddenly accused like this, Xu Ke had a slight look of confusion on his face, "You’re the one who proposed to compete with me, so how did I become despicable?"
"That’s right, we all heard it. You were the one who dragged him into a competition with you. Did you just say those harsh words without meaning them, because you’re actually afraid to duel him, so you call him that?" For whatever purpose, someone started to speak up for Xu Ke.
Once one person started, a second and third followed. Some people spoke later and more tactfully, but others were much more direct and didn’t hold back at all.
"I think some people, ah, just don’t have the skills, only know how to talk big. They take advantage of people who aren’t from Holland to bully them, and when they realize those people genuinely want to compete, they want to back out due to lack of skill. Hah, if you don’t have the skills, just admit defeat. To just call someone despicable, without really knowing, some might think they’ve wronged you. In reality, it’s all just self-inflicted. If you really lack the ability, just withdraw from this recruitment; why waste resources by staying here?"
"I haven’t; you know nothing and yet you speak here!" The man grabbed the collar of the person bad-mouthing him, but due to the presence of the butler and security personnel, he didn’t immediately lift his hand to hit but instead marked the person in his mind with resentment.
"Do you want to compete or not? If you don’t want to compete with me, I’ll just do it on my own." Xu Ke glanced at the man outside the field and shrugged as he spoke.
The man knew perfectly well that it was a trap, that this man just wanted to force him into the match. But now he was already on the frying pan; although uncomfortable and would eventually be roasted, it was still better than turning to ashes even before getting on the field. So, even though the man hated Xu Ke to the point of gnashing his teeth, he still steeled himself and walked into the arena, enduring the crowd’s eyes.
"They can’t see through your true colors, they still think you’re a good person. But it doesn’t matter; even if I’m the only one who knows your real side, I won’t let this go. Unless you successfully get hired and live here, I’ll find a chance to give you a hard time." The man stood by Xu Ke, gritting his teeth and speaking with eyes that seemed ready to devour.
Xu Ke chuckled softly, "You really know how to dawdle. I’ve already picked my favorite horse; I’m going to tame the wild horse. You choose from the remaining three. Don’t fall too far behind, or you won’t have the face to stay." Xu Ke laughed lightly and then walked towards his chosen black horse.
Xu Ke did not immediately hurry over to ride the horse but approached cautiously, testing the water near the black horse, which was attempting to graze the entire patch of grass.
The black horse sensed someone approaching, its large eyes scanned Xu Ke, and as Xu Ke got closer, its hooves stamped restlessly on the spot, and its tail began to swish gently.
But seeing this made Xu Ke feel no fear; he continued according to his plan, moving towards the black horse, even daring to stretch out his hand to touch it.
The black horse aimed a kick at Xu Ke, clearly not wanting Xu Ke to approach or touch it. But did Xu Ke seem like the type to obey obediently? He could listen, but few could make him listen. Xu Ke thought casually.
Xu Ke still came to the front of the black horse and, without much hesitation, reached out to touch the horse’s head.
"Oh my God, is he crazy? Won’t that kick him?" The onlookers were shocked by Xu Ke’s audacity; some with softer hearts closed their eyes not wanting to see a bloody scene. Perhaps only one person, the man, opened his eyes wide with excitement, wanting to see Xu Ke get his head smashed by the black horse he chose.
However, the imagined scene never happened. Despite a look of displeasure, the black horse stood still and let Xu Ke pet its head, just kept snorting, trying to intimidate Xu Ke.
"Behave yourself, and I’ll treat you well; otherwise, I might just chop your head and roast it." Xu Ke said with a smile, his distinct hand resting on the horse’s head while the other hand stroked its neck. The black horse stomped restlessly, yearning to retreat, yet dared not move with Xu Ke holding its reins.
The moment Xu Ke sensed the horse thinking of fleeing, a bit more menace gathered in his eyes. Animals always have a higher awareness of danger than humans. Although it couldn’t understand Xu Ke’s words, it could feel Xu Ke’s murderous intent, which was enough for Xu Ke.
Xu Ke patted the horse’s head twice.
The people outside the arena were incredulous, casting probing looks at the butler. They suspected that the black horse was already trained, as otherwise, it couldn’t be so obedient.
Yet the butler’s shock was no less than theirs, only he was used to smiling and appearing composed. But in his heart, his evaluation of Xu Ke increased significantly; although uncertain whether Xu Ke would succeed, everything he showed was commendable. The butler had subtly awarded him high marks for his performance.
If it were before, they might’ve thought just touching the horse’s head would be Xu Ke’s limit. But ever since suspecting training, they were prepared to see Xu Ke achieve much more.
Xu Ke tugged on the reins, thinking it was about time, and without warning, mounted the black horse.
The black horse was startled, sensing something on its back. Its first reaction was to lift its front legs, attempting to throw Xu Ke off, but as the saying goes, inviting a Buddha is easy, sending one away is hard. Was Xu Ke the type to be easily thrown? Regardless of the many difficult moves the horse tried or how it ran and bumped, Xu Ke sat firm as if he was one with its back, refusing to descend.
