Chapter 739: Unexpected

The boss and the boss’s wife looked at the genuine joy and shyness on their daughter’s face, and their worries eased.
"It seems you two have made great progress without us knowing," the boss’s wife joked, seeing her daughter’s bashful expression and feeling happy for her.
Alice’s face turned as red as a monkey’s butt upon hearing her mother’s words. She averted her gaze, not daring to look at her mother’s face, as bits and pieces of the previous day flashed through her mind. "That’s not true at all, Mom. Please don’t say that anymore. Focus on the hotel’s business. Let me handle my own affairs."
Alice glimpsed a corner of Xu Ke’s clothes upstairs and suddenly panicked, at a loss for words, so she could only push her mother toward the front desk.
"Alright, alright, I won’t meddle in your affairs anymore. But can you stop pushing me? You’re about to push me onto the table," the boss’s wife laughed with a hint of amusement in her voice, raising her hands in a gesture of surrender.
Alice awkwardly withdrew her hand and whispered an apology to her mother. Under her mother’s teasing gaze, she tried to suppress her shyness, lifted her skirt, and ran toward Xu Ke.
"Good morning, sir. Why are you up so early today? There are hardly any people on the streets," Alice greeted Xu Ke with a light bow, a gentle smile on her face, and her eyes bright and sparkling as if they had captured all the morning sunshine, intently looking at Xu Ke’s face.
"Good morning. I wanted to go out and buy some things, and maybe take a walk. I’ve been here for a while but haven’t really explored this small town," Xu Ke replied with a slight smile, glancing outside. Seeing the beautiful weather, his smile deepened further, "And today’s weather is perfect for an outing, don’t you think?"
"It is indeed perfect," Alice followed his gaze outside and then, as if making a decision, looked expectantly at Xu Ke and asked, "I have a lot of free time today and can show you around the town. Will you invite me to go out with you?"
Looking at her expectant eyes, Xu Ke couldn’t think of any reason to refuse, so he nodded and said, "Then I’ll trouble you."
Alice’s eyes lit up instantly, and her smile deepened, though she quickly restrained herself. However, not fast enough to escape Xu Ke’s notice. Seeing her happiness over such a small matter, Xu Ke’s mood brightened along with hers.
"Are you planning to go out right now? Would you mind waiting for me to change my clothes so we can go out together?" Alice gently bit her lower lip, looking expectantly at Xu Ke. It was her first time going out alone with Xu Ke, and she wanted to create a beautiful memory for both of them.
Since he had already agreed for her to accompany him, he naturally didn’t mind waiting for her to change, "Sure, go ahead."
"Then wait for me, okay?" Alice reminded him before turning to head for her room. She walked gracefully at first, but after a few steps, she couldn’t help her increasingly buoyant steps and the growing brightness of her smile.
Watching her bird-like figure, Xu Ke shook his head with amusement. He found her appearance rather adorable, yet felt curious about how Alice’s parents managed to raise a child like her, with looks and personality being polar opposites. People often say one’s appearance reflects their inner self, but this saying certainly didn’t apply to Alice.
While Xu Ke was lost in thought in the lobby, Alice was busily scuttling around her room like a little hamster, wanting to pull out every piece of clothing from her wardrobe, regardless of the season, as long as it looked good.
It didn’t take Alice long at all, and soon she descended from upstairs wearing a fiery red dress, resembling a peony in full bloom, dazzlingly beautiful, attracting everyone’s attention like a hook.
"Do I look good in this?" Alice twirled in front of Xu Ke, showcasing her dress from all angles, as she asked.
"You look beautiful," Xu Ke replied honestly.
Hearing Xu Ke’s compliment, Alice couldn’t help but show a silly grin on her face, which combined with her striking features to give her a lovely naivety. It blended a bit of girlishness into her full-grown beauty, creating a unique charm that was irresistibly attractive to any man, making Xu Ke’s heart race for a few seconds.
This sudden feeling left Xu Ke’s smile stiff for a few seconds, though Alice didn’t notice it as she was joyfully immersed in the fact she was having her first date with the person she liked, not paying attention to anything else.
The gentle breeze blew Alice’s chestnut-colored hair in front of Xu Ke. As he followed a step behind her, watching her hair sway back and forth, he subconsciously reached out his hand. The cool and smooth strands brushed his palm before slipping through his fingers.
At that moment, Xu Ke’s mind went blank. He couldn’t think of anything, yet felt as if he remembered everything, especially all the things he once promised Lin Mengyao, vivid and fresh as if they had just happened. This feeling made Xu Ke quickly retract his hand, as if he had touched something burning hot.
"What’s wrong?" Alice noticed the absence of Xu Ke’s presence beside her and quickly turned back to see him in a daze, asking with concern.
"Nothing, just suddenly remembered something. Let’s keep going," Xu Ke adjusted his expression, pretending nothing had happened. But when Alice turned away, Xu Ke’s eyes became complicated as he looked at her carefree back.
Xu Ke asked himself why, despite not having known Alice for long, he felt a slight affection for her. Although Alice was a good girl by any measure, that shouldn’t be the reason for his heart to flutter. If his feelings were based on such a laughable reason, then his affection seemed a bit too cheap.
