Ajax was impressed by how the entire dungeon floor changed after the appearance of the floor boss. The density of the ambient Mana stayed the same but the concentration of Fire was slowly growing as everything around him was slowly drying out and getting ready to burn. He could even see a marked effect on his surroundings from [Mana Syphon] as everything around stopped being affected as he syphoned the Fire Mana from the surroundings. More troublesome however was that Ajax hadn’t felt any Fire Mana at all when he selected the arch for this floor. This would mean that he had no way of guessing what sort of Floor boss would be on each floor. Maybe the floor boss wasn’t decided before it was summoned. So much he could experiment with. It didn’t take more than an hour for Ajax to find the floor boss, all of the Fire Mana was drawn towards one direction and it wasn’t hard for Ajax to figure out that was where the Floor Boss was. Ajax wasn’t sure what to expect when he found the boss but the massive blob of fire certainly wasn’t it. He knew that since fire wasn’t a solid or liquid but rather a combination of gas and plasma it could change its shape easily yet he still expected something somewhat resembling the shape of an animal or a humanoid. Interesting as the shape might have been, that was the least interesting thing about it for Ajax. More interesting was that his [Sense Mana] couldn’t find a core anywhere in the body of the floor boss. As Ajax approached the boss he felt [Mana Syphon] have a harder and harder time draining the Fire Mana from the ambient Mana and it wasn’t long until the floor boss noticed his presence. The flame jet it launched towards Ajax wasn’t something Ajax would consider strong. As a floor boss it was clearly above what other monsters under level one hundred had thrown at him but it wasn’t to the point where it matched the power of a monster at level one hundred and ten, clearly floor bosses were also subjected to the large jump in power following level one hundred. Despite the low output of the attack Ajax was surprised by what [Sense Mana] and [Mana Syphon] told him about how the elemental fought. Most important was that the elemental’s main body was completely immune to his [Mana Syphon], usually his Legendary Skill acted like a continuous damage over time for all the elementals he faced so far in the dungeons. He wasn’t sure how or what made it different but it was separate from the fire it generated for its attack. The attack, Ajax could feel [Mana Syphon] weakly affected but it was even less than the Fire Mana in the ambient Mana. Ajax had no issue blocking the attack by infusing his shield with Ice Mana. Despite not knowing all that much about how the elemental worked or what made the floor boss different Ajax did know how to defeat it. It was rather easy, all he had to do was target the true body of the elemental with something that would disrupt the Mana focused there. Mages with access to opposing elements were the best for this but even enchanted weapons would allow physical fighters to injure the elementals, though getting so close did leave them open to getting hit by the elemental. Launching a water jet at the floor boss Ajax could easily see how effective of an attack it had been, a big chunk of the elemental’s body had been snuffed out. The flames were replaced in the next second by conjured flames and the elemental started to shrink as it redistributed the rest of its mana to replace the conjured flames. Unlike previous floor bosses he had fought, Ajax had such an advantage this time that he could play with the boss without putting himself at risk. The only issue he could run into would be running out of Mana but he still had over three thousand left and that wasn’t mentioning the over four thousand Stamina that he could convert with his boon. It was this feeling of safety that led Ajax into making a mistake. He hadn’t picked up on it but while the Fire Mana in the surroundings resisted his [Mana Syphon] the same could not be said for the other Mana types. This meant that he didn’t have to spend as much Mana boosting himself with [Mana Syphon]. Unfortunately it also meant that as time went by the concentration of Fire Mana in the surrounding went from close to 30% to above 80%. Ajax could feel it, to his [Sense Mana] it seemed like joy was somehow radiating off the floor boss as the FIre Mana in the surroundings passed a certain concentration. All of a sudden the elemental was no longer forced to launch attacks from its body but instead fires erupted from everywhere. Ajax had barely had a moment of warning when the boss channeled that much mana at once to soak himself in water before he was engulfed by the flames. Ajax wasted no time using [Expel Mana] to release a large amount of Ice Mana into his immediate surrounding, cutting off the flames but he could feel the five hundred Mana he used all at once start to strain his Mana channels. That had been too close for comfort. Ajax silently chastised himself while he started fighting to kill the floor boss, charging it straight on and bringing out his spear and slowly channeling more and more Ice Mana into the blow. With Ajax looking to end the fight the uneasy stalemate that had dominated their engagement so far tipped all at once. Ajax expertly used his spear to segment the boss into a few big chunks forcing the elemental to choose one that it would survive through while discarding the rest. Being presented with a smaller target Ajax followed it up with a powerful water jet that extinguished the boss. Once the boss was dead Ajax could feel a small change in the ambient Mana, the Fire Mana present wasn’t being drawn towards a single point, yet the floor didn’t revert back to its original state. Ajax continued to clear the floor but the ents that were left now felt about ten to fifteen levels lower, clearly weakened from the large amount of Fire Mana that now spread throughout the floor. Once Ajax found the obelisk he wasted no time in activating it. He had originally been a bit worried of being overwhelmed and slowly whittled down depending on how many monsters the floor might hold if he activated it too soon, after all they were still level ninety and above but with them being weakened so much and more than half the floor cleared already Ajax had no more issues just activating the obelisk and waiting for the monsters to come to him. It still took another whole day before all of the monsters made it to the obelisk, ents were simply not the fastest when it came to traveling any sort of distance, more than that their bodies were ruined, Ajax was sure Anna would be able to torch a boss despite it being twice her level. One downside of the ents being weakened by the fire was that their bodies no longer had any use for [Alchemy] outside of kindling as a heat source. After he finished clearing out the rest of the floor Ajax took the time to sleep once more. When he woke up Ajax pulled out his alchemy equipment. With the floor cleared now would be the perfect time for him to do some alchemy, without interruptions he could even take advantage of the time dilation effect of the higher floors to get more out of his time in the Wild Lands. One downside of the floor was that thanks to the high Fire Mana concentration on the floor Ajax was unable to work on anything even slightly unstable. Instead he focused on using as much of the ingredients he harvested from the marshy first floor. From the ingredients he picked up on the first floor the only combination Ajax was proficient in was for a temporary boosting potion. Ajax had close to 100% success rate when brewing the potion so the reason he decided to brew again was as a control group. Ajax wanted to see just how much the dungeon floor could affect his alchemy. The answer turned out to be a lot. Ajax had enough ingredients to brew thirty doses but after the first ten he found he had only managed to craft six doses, even those of poor quality when compared to his previous successes. Despite the demoralising numbers Ajax was glad for the opportunity. He had plenty of ingredients he couldn’t take outside the dungeon with him and the perfect environment to improve one part of his [Alchemy] certainly [Dungeon Crafter] and [Stabilize Mixture ] would also see some growth from this.
