Lak went to prepare the barrels of gunpowders we will be using to collapse the tunnels. Meanwhile I continue to coordinate the shadow divers as they continue to harrow the rat ogres. This time, much more cautiously and making sure they are attacking from the stormfiend’s blind spots. Only attacking if a rat ogre completely blocks the stormfiend’s vision or completely behind the stormfiend. Fortunately, it seems like the boy controlling the stormfiend is currently panicking. Not able to control the rat it grafted to as precisely as before.
“Stop.”
Again, I command to stop attacking as I move the mirror’s perspective back to the skaven’s fortifications. Allowing the shadow divers to rest while I check on the skavens. Some skavenslaves scurry as they open another dozen cages. Letting another dozen rat ogres loose. I see no stormfiends on this dozen and the rat ogres charges towards the main tunnels. Chasing after the sound of battle. Good, this is exactly what I was hoping for.
“Explosives ready.” Before I can command the shadow divers to continue attacking, Lak returns. I command the shadow divers to return to the surface.
“Do call me if they do something weird.” I hand over the mirror to the other Valariel who nods.
Then I stand and leave my tent. Seeing only six barrels of explosives.
“Only this many?” I confirm
“Half of our current stock. Most already taken North by Kal.” Lak confirms
Right of course. But then it means we are not producing as much gunpowder as I like. I will need outside supply if I want to field even more guns. I check the barrels. Which is roughly the size of a person. As for how big the blast will be, I have no idea. Opening the lid, there are few warpstones lining in. The bigger ones used in our spell slots. Well, whatever the explosion yield it would have, it certainly would be enough now.
“Seal the lid properly. Make a hole and attach a flammable rope to the hole. I want these to be ready when the shadow divers arrive. Let them rest for a while before sending them with these barrels.”
I gave my command. The shadow divers are not made for prolonged combat and if this continues on, they will soon make mistakes. And with clan Moulder present, the mistake will be very costly. The solution would be to make more of the shadow divers or force the skaven to the surface so the bulk of my warherd can deal with them. The latter is more viable than the former as the shadow divers have no staying power. They are overtuned to be good at one specific thing only that even if I made more of them, I won’t exactly have them to act like a warherd.
Hmmm. Maybe I can spread them to weed out the skavens all across the empire. But there will be a problem on how they organize themselves, who will be their leader, and the eventual risk of exposure and also being caught. Something I am not ready for. Maybe after this, they will have priority on breeding to increase their number to prepare for that eventuality.
Then there’s the matter of warpstones. The thing that leads skavens north. While I already have gunpowders, I haven’t exactly used the warpstones properly yet. Only used for the spell slots which are only used by our shamans and for the cold forging. I will need to think on how I will start using them properly, especially when I have a near unlimited supply of the thing. But experimenting with them will require its own separate facilities as using our workshops for guns and gunpowder will invite disaster. Seeing that we didn’t produce as much gunpowder as I would have liked, the goal of turning the warpstones as an alternative for bullets will be the goal for now.
I hear the chime of a familiar notification that I haven’t seen in a while. So it seems a sacrifice to my name still works even if it is not in my Herdstone. Which is good. Though there are less there than I thought it should be based on the last battle. I think there is at least twice that number on the chaos side of the casualty. Is it because of distance or have the souls departed from the body or claimed by the Chaos Gods already? The only way to find out is to fight a non chaos army but viewing my standing, it would not be anytime soon. Hopefully. With nothing else to do now, I call Kal through the communication earring.
“Kal, the sacrifice works. I have accepted the souls. Do this whenever you can after battle unless it is not safe for your warherd or other more important matters.” I notified him
“Good.” Is all his answer
“Good.”
“Good.”
“How about the Norscan ships?” I ask as to not keep repeating ourselves.
“They move eastward, staying close to the cliffs. Druig follows them now.”
“What are your plans now?”
“I will find Marissith. There’s something I need to understand.”
That must be due to the Glade Lord attacking him. So Kal and Druig switch places. Quite a prudent decision if Kal wants to fix things up in Laurelorn with the Eonir and Druig has his turn with things that only need to be destroyed. But Druig is going east. He is going to meet with humans from the Empire. I will need to supervise him so as to not accidentally create some problem when my alliance with the Empire haven’t properly took place yet.
“Have you told Druig about the sacrifice yet?” I just remember and asks him
“Yes. When I call him after the Norscan.”
“Good then.” I said as I end the call
And immediately after I felt a familiar cramp. Finally, it is time to give birth to the dragon.
