About The Most Beautiful Equation In Mathematics

There is

in Mathematics

something

just as marvelous,

just as fantastic,

just as incredible

as Einstein's famous equation

E = mc²

Besides, it is two hundred years older.

And it can be explained,

fully and comprehensively

to young people in their middle or late teens.

As this book attempts to do.

There are five basic numbers in mathematics : 1, 0, pi, i, e. They occur in different branches of mathematics : arithmetic, geometry, algebra, calculus. They were invented at different times in the history of mathematics, ranging from times immemorial, 3000 years up to 250 years ago. They were invented in different parts of the world ranging from Africa, India to Switzerland. It would therefore be a most astonishing event if they came together in a single equation. But they actually do, in an equation invented by the famous mathematician Leonhard Euler (1707-1783). So thrilled, so excited was Euler by his discovery that he called it God's Equation. The author of this book has chosen to call it "The Most Beautiful Equation In Mathematics".

The author taught mathematics for thirty years in the best known private coaching class for science and mathematics in Bombay, India. He can justifiably claim to be the world's the most highly experienced teacher of pre-university mathematics.

The author has used his experience to bring the subject matter of the book down from the level of Standard XIII (where it is taught in colleges in India) to Standard X. It can therefore be profitably read by students who have cleared the Standard X examination, provided they are keenly interested in mathematics. Concepts (some of them perhaps difficult) like imaginary numbers, binomial theorem, infinite series, derivatives etc. have been elucidated for the benefit of young people.
