Alhamdullildhi Rabbil Alamin, wasalatu wassaldm 'ala rasftlillahil karirn,
tva 'ala alibi wa ashdbi wa man tab ila hum bi-ihsdn ild’yawm al-din; iva
bad. All Praise belongs and is directed to the Rabb of everthing that exists,
praise and salutations be upon His Pinal beloved Messenger, Muhammad
his revered family and his noble companions and upon those
who follow them in good until the end of times, to proceed,
This book, The Distinctive Jurisprudence of the Ahl al-Hadith clarifies
issues of contention between the Ahl al-Hadith and the people of taqlid
i.e. the Hanafi Madhhabists. For many years the Ahnaf have published
books in English and have put forth their evidences for these contentious
issues of fiqh and at the same time repudiated the view of Ahl al-Hadith.
These issues are not new to Ahl al-Sunnah and Shaykh Badi‘ al-Dln
Shah al-Rashidi al-Sindhi addressed them around Seventy-Five (75) years
ago when he was in his prime; just Twenty (20) years old, when he
delivered a lecture in 1945. His teacher and the fervent defender of the
Madhhab of Ahl a-Hadith, Shaykh Thana’ Allah Amritsarl
(d. 1367/1948)1 said about him while introducing him to the conference:
Today the keynote speaker of this conference is a young scholar hailing
from Sindh who is a specialist in Asma’ al-Rijal.
The lecture was subsequently transcribed and published a number of
times. I used different editions of the books as well as the nominal
referencing contained therein. I added further extensive references and
quotes from other sources as well cross references from Shaykh Badl’s

other works, however brevity was adopted in order to minimise the
footnotes. I similarly referenced the very brief introduction of Shaykh
‘Abd Allah Nasir Rehmanl. I have also, by way of information and for
biographical reasons, cited some of Shaykh Badi‘ al-Dln’s other works, to
inform the reader of the Shaykh’s extensive writings and research.
Lastly, I have added some brief snippets of the Shaykhs life, so that
the reader learns more about this remarkable Salafl Hadlth Master. We
pray that In-Sha’-Allah, people benefit from this short but succinct work
and that it serves as a basic reference point for contentious issues of fiqh,
which are frequently reiterated by the adherents of the Hanafl Madhhab.2

Al-'Allamah Shaykh Badl‘ al-Dln Shah al-Rashidl al-
Sindhl (d.1416/1996)
I have already compiled a biography of Shaykh Badi‘ al-Dln which was
first published online around 2001 and it was the first ever biography of
the Shaykh3 in English. One may refer to it for a basic background of the
Shaykh, his teachers, students and writings. This biography has since
been used by others with modifications and at the same time some new
biographies have been published online, however all of them use the same
generic sources and thus without any new information. What follows, I
hope, In-Sha’-Allah are brief snippets from the life of the Shaykh that are
not in English.
Shaykh ‘Ata Allah Thaqib lauded him with the following titles;

The defender of the Prophetic Sunnah and Salafi Aqidah, the
destroyer of innovations, the Mujahid, the upholder of the luord
of Allah, firm in the Sunnah, inherent in worship, the virtuous
scholar, the scholar of hadith, the jurist, the leader of the
researchers, the savant, the learned.4
He was a formidable scholar who spread Islam through: the lands he
travelled to. He travelled from town to town, village to village and city to
city spreading the message of Tawhid and Sunnah and reprimanded
Shirk and Bid‘ah.
Once a person upon Tawhid called Shaykh Badl‘ to his village to
deliver a lecture. When the Shaykh arrived at the Masjid the
adminstrators stopped him from delivering his lecture. He then proceded
to his house and delivered his lecture on his roof. So, in the middle of the
silent night, on the roof with only one listener the Shaykh began his
lecture, and with his powerful voice and stature, his words echoed and
resonated across the whole village, and when he recited the Qur‘an in his
uniqe melodious manner and expounded Tawhid, the people started to
come out of their houses, slowly by slowly until a huge crowd had
assembled in the bazzar. Then they started listening attentively until
many of them adopted the daw‘ah of Tawhid.5
This relentless effort in calling to Tawhid in remote parts of Sindh
and in Pakistan led to everyone knowing the da‘wah of the Ahl al-Hadlth
and the call of the Messengers. So much so that when the Shaykh began
his da\vah in Sindh there was not a single Masjid of the Ahl al-Hadlth
there and when he died there were over eight hundred (800) Ahl al-
Hadlth Masajids in Sindh and its interior. Shaykh Zubayr ‘All Za’I said:
