The Artisan Editor’s Note
Whenever we lose ourselves in
2014 Volume 25
a story or poem, or when we
take a moment to really drink in
a piece of art, we enter a whole
other world—a world in which
the magical and fantastical exist,
where even the ordinary things
that make up our daily lives become
extraordinary. It is the world of the
writer’s or artist’s mind, but as we
venture into that realm, it becomes
Briarwood Christian School
our own. Even more amazingly,
6255 Cahaba Valley Road
whenever we create works of art
and literature ourselves, we too
Birmingham, AL 35242
breathe entire universes into life.
(205) 776-5900
Because of literature and poetry,
because of art, there are always
new doors to open, new worlds
to explore, new dreams to dream.
Because of imagination, we have
the keys to all kingdoms.

The school must be purged
of any temptation to dangerously
open a door for a friend.
Bekah Blythe
Briarwood Christian School is a wonderful place
where kids learn all sorts of information they will
probably never use the rest of their lives. Recently,
though, Briarwood has enforced some security
measures. Among these various inconvenient changes, a
nefarious door policy has come about. According to this
vindictive rule, if a student is seen kindly opening the
door for a teacher or another student, he is immediately
punished. The vast majority of students find this rule to be
absolutely ridiculous, and many ignore it completely. This
is causing quite a bit of tension in the lovely Briarwood
Christian School. Therefore, Briarwood should tear down
the current school and rebuild an entirely new school with
no doors at all; this would remove conflict, promote school
unity, and ensure that class could continue as normal.
