Maar wanneer de vier mannen, na een avontuurlijk bezoek op de maan, naar de aarde willen terugkeren, grijpt een eskader vliegende schotels van een andere planeet in en verplaatst hen niet alleen buiten :ons zonnestelsel, maar ook buiten de tijd, zodat zij op aarde landen enige tienduizenden jaren vóór onze tijdrekening ...</p> <p>De schrijver weet de ontmoetingen van zijn (zeer menselijke) 'helden' met schepselen van hogere (die van de vliegende schotels) en van lagere orde (de voorhistorische menselijke wezens) niet alleen volkomen aanvaardbaar te maken, hij heeft er ook een strek king in gelegd die de lezer, ook als het hem alleen maar om een boeiend avonturenverhaal te doen is, tot nadenken zal stemmen. </p>
