every year thereafter.

That’s enough greenhouse gas to fill Parliament House
ten times each fortnight !
Government Building Projects

1. All Government building projects are to aim to
demonstrate best practice, cost effective, energy

efficient and environmental design, commissioning,
operation and maintenance.

2. Technical guidelines for cost effective energy efficient
and environmental design are to be developed and
applied where feasible (note: north/south orientation
and full window shading feature in Sustainable Design
Checklists)

3. Trials of new cost effective energy efficient and
environmentally-friendly technologies and practices in
Government projects are encouraged.
Leased Buildings

1. The NT Government will continue considering energy
efficiency issues, which directly affect the Government’s
energy expenditure, in lease negotiations.

2. In the future, as benchmarking tools become available in
the Territory, the Government also aims to consider base
building energy efficiency in lease negotiations. The
property industry will be consulted prior to the finalisation
of such initiatives.
Building Code of Australia Mandatory
Minimum Requirements
1. NT adopted BCA 2003 mandatory minimum
‘Deemed To Satisfy’ requirements for Class 1
buildings

2. NT did not adopt use of house energy rating
software as an alternative method or Deemed-To-
Satisfy requirements for Class 2 - 4 buildings (eg.
apartment buildings)

3. BCA 2003 requirements are presented as having
‘3.5 Star’ stringency
