ThispublicationisforsoldiersholdingMOS55B,skilllevels3and4, andtheirsupervisors,trainers,and
commanders. ItcontainsanMOStrainingplanprovidinginformationneededtoplan,conduct,and
evaluateunittraining,oneofthemostimportantjobsofmilitaryleaders. Itincludesstandardizedtraining
objectivesintheformoftasksummariesthatcanbeusedtotrainandevaluatesoldiersoncriticaltasks
supportingunitmissionsduringwartime.
SoldiersholdingMOS55Bshouldhaveaccesstothispublication. Trainersandfirst-linesupervisors
shouldactivelyplanforsoldieraccess,makingitavailableinworkareas,unitlearningcenters,andunit
libraries. However,itisnotintendedforanindividualcopytobeprovidedtoeachMOSholder. TheSTP

CHAPTER1
Introduction
1-1. General.ThisSTPidentifiesindividualMOStrainingrequirementsforsoldiersholdingMOS55B.
Commanders,trainers,andsoldiersshoulduseittoplan,conduct,andevaluateindividualtrainingin
units. TheSTPistheprimaryMOSreferenceforsupportingself-development,evaluatingMOS
proficiency,andtraining55Bsoldiers. Commandersemploytwoprimarymethodstoevaluatesoldier
proficiency:
· Commander's evaluation. Commander’s evaluationsarelocaltestsorassessmentsofsoldiers'
performanceofMOS-specificandcommontaskscriticaltotheunitmission. Theymaybe
conductedyear-round.
· Commontasktest. CTTsarehands-ontestsusedtoevaluateproficiencyoncommontasks.
Alternatewrittentestsareprovidedifequipmentisnotavailableforhands-ontesting.
Thispublicationisthesoldier'sprimaryreferencetoprepareforacommander'sevaluationofMOS-
specifictasks. ItcontainstasksummariesforallcriticaltasksspecifictotheMOSandSL. Commanders
andtrainerswillusethissoldier'smanualandtrainer'sguidetoplanandconducttrainingand
commander'sevaluations.
Chapter 2, Trainer’s Guide, contains information needed to plan training requirements for thisMOS. The
trainer'sguide--
· Identifiessubjectareasinwhichsoldiersmustbetrained.
· Identifiescriticaltasksforeachsubjectarea.
· Specifieswheresoldiersareinitiallytrainedoneachtask.
· Recommendshowofteneachtaskshouldbetrainedtosustainproficiency.
· Recommendsastrategyforcross-trainingsoldiers.
· Recommendsastrategyfortrainingsoldierstoperformhigher-leveltasks.
UsethisSTPalongwithSTP21-1-SMCT (Soldier’s Manual of Common Tasks, Skill Level 1), STP 21-24-
SMCT (Soldier’s Manual of Common Tasks, Skill Levels 2-4),ARTEPs,FM25-4(HowtoConduct
TrainingExercises),FM25-5(TrainingforMobilizationandWar),FM7-0(TrainingtheWorkForce),and
FM7-1(Battle-FocusedTraining)toestablisheffectivetrainingplansandprogramsthatintegratesoldier,
leader,andcollectivetasks.
1-2. TaskSummaries. Tasksummariesoutlinewartimeperformancerequirementsforeachcriticaltask
intheSTP. Theyprovidebothsoldierandtrainerwiththeinformationnecessarytoprepare,conduct,and
evaluatecriticaltasktraining. Asaminimum,tasksummariesincludeinformationsoldiersmustknowand
skillstheymustperformtostandardforeachtask. Followingisthetasksummaryformat:
· Tasknumber. Thetasknumberisa10-digitnumberthatidentifiesthetaskandskilllevel.
Includethetasknumberandtitleinanycorrespondencerelatingtothetask.
· Tasktitle. Thetasktitleidentifiestheactiontobeperformed.

· Conditions. Thetaskconditionsstatementdescribesthefieldorgarrisonconditionsunderwhich
thetaskwillbeperformedandidentifiestheequipment,tools,references,jobaids,and
supportingpersonnelthatthesoldierneedstoperformthetaskinwartime.
· Standards. Thetaskstandardsdescribehowwellandtowhatlevelofproficiencythesoldier
mustperformthetaskunderwartimeconditions. Standardsaretypicallyexpressedintermsof
accuracy,completeness,duration,sequence,speed,andtolerance.
· Performancemeasures. Thissectionidentifiesspecificactionsthatthesoldiermustaccomplish
tocompletethetasksuccessfully. PerformancemeasuresappearinaGO/NO-GOratingformat
foreasyevaluation. Sometasksmayalsoincludedetailedtraininginformationina Training
InformationOutlineandanEvaluationPreparationSection. TheEvaluationPreparationSection
indicatesnecessarymodificationstotaskperformanceinordertotrainandevaluateataskthat
cannotbetrainedtothewartimestandardunderwartimeconditions. Itmayalsoincludespecial
trainingandevaluationpreparationinstructionstoaccommodatethesemodificationsandany
instructionsthatshouldbegiventothesoldierbeforeevaluation.
· References. Thissectionidentifiesreferencesthatprovidemoredetailedexplanationsoftask
performancerequirementsthanaregiveninthetasksummary.
· Warnings. Warningsalertuserstothepossibilityofimmediatepersonalinjuryorequipment
damage.
· Notes. Notesprovideadditionalsupportiveexplanationsortipsrelatingtotaskperformance.
1-3. Soldier’s Responsibilities. Eachsoldierisresponsibleforperformingindividualtasksidentifiedby
thefirst-line supervisor based on the unit’s METL. Soldiers must perform tasks to the standardsincluded
inthetasksummary. Ifsoldiershavequestionsabouttasksorwhichtasksinthismanualtheymust
perform,theyareresponsibleforaskingtheirfirst-linesupervisorforclarification. First-linesupervisors
knowhowtoperformeachtaskorcandirectsoldierstoappropriatetrainingmaterials,includingcurrent
fieldmanuals,technicalmanuals,andArmyregulations. Soldiersareresponsibleforusingthese
materialstomaintainperformance. Theyarealsoresponsibleformaintainingperformanceofallcommon
taskslistedintheSMCTsattheircurrentskillleveland below.
Periodically,soldiersshouldasktheirsupervisororanothersoldertochecktheirperformancetoensure
thattheycanperformthetasks.
1-4. NCOSelf-DevelopmentandtheSTP. Self-developmentisakeycomponentofleaderdevelopment.
Leadersfollowplanned,progressive,sequentialself-developmentprogramsdevelopedbytheindividual
NCOandhisorherfirst-linesupervisortoenhanceandsustainmilitarycompetencies. Self-development
consistsofindividualstudy,research,professionalreading,practice,andself-assessment. Theself-
developmentconceptrequiresNCOs,asArmyprofessionals,totakeresponsibilityforremainingcurrent
inallphasesoftheirMOS. The STP is the NCO’s primary source for maintaining MOS proficiency.

CorrespondenceCourseProgramCatalog)fordetailedeligibilityrequirementsandenrollment
information. ThecatalogisavailableonlinethroughtheAIPDwebsite.Thewebsiteoffersonline

1-5. Commander’s Responsibilities. Commandersmustensurethattheirunittrainingplanspreparethe
unitforwarbyenablingsoldierstodevelopandsustainproficiencyintheirMOSandskillleveltasks.
Commandersshoulddesignunittrainingprogramstoprovideindividualtrainingforallsoldiersassigned
totheunitandtoevaluatesoldierproficiencyroutinelyaspartofthecommander’s evaluation program.
Theunittrainingprogramshouldalsointegrateindividualtrainingwithcrewdrillsandothercollective
training. TheMOStrainingplanprovidesinformationonwhichtobaseintegration,cross-train,train-up,
