Данное пособие содержит тексты для чтения на английском языке об Олим-
пийских и Паралимпийских зимних спортивных дисциплинах. Тексты сопрово-
ждаются глоссариями, лингвистическими комментариями и вопросами на про-
верку понимания.
Книга для чтения может быть использована, в первую очередь, как вспомога-
тельное пособие для самостоятельной подготовки переводчиков для работы
на Олимпийских и Паралимпийских зимних играх 2014 года в г. Сочи, а так-
же будет интересна широкому кругу лиц, желающих овладеть терминологией
зимних видов спорта на английском и русском языках.

Дорогие Друзья!
На Игры в Сочи в 2014 году приедут тысячи спортсменов из десятков стран
мира и десятки тысяч зрителей. Для того чтобы все они получили незабы-
ваемые положительные впечатления, необходимо сделать очень многое, но
прежде всего — говорить с ними «на одном языке». Именно поэтому огром-
ную роль для успешного проведения Игр играет правильное применение
Олимпийской и Паралимпийской терминологии и ее верный перевод.
В качестве помощи волонтерам, переводчикам, участникам и гостям Игр мы
разработали учебное пособие по зимним Олимпийским и Паралимпийским
видам спорта. Настоящее издание включает в себя статьи из зарубежной
спортивной прессы, базовую терминологию по заданной тематике с соот-
ветствующими пояснениями и вопросы для проверки понимания текстов.
Игры в Сочи стали настоящим стимулом к изучению иностранного языка,
и мы стремимся к тому, чтобы любой житель нашей страны, желающий
работать в индустрии спорта, мог пользоваться грамотной терминологией
и уверенно общаться с зарубежными специалистами. Данное пособие —
первый шаг в этом направлении.
Уверен, что это издание станет еще одной жемчужиной Библиотеки «Сочи
2014» и будет оценено по достоинству не только профессиональными
переводчиками, но и теми, кто уже работает в области спортивного менед-
жмента или только его изучает.
