Dear CE Planner,
It is now well accepted that hyperglycemia in the inpatient setting is not only a quality of care issue,
but also a patient safety, length of stay, and a cost issue. The management of inpatient hyperglycemia
in patients with and without the diagnosis of diabetes continues to evolve. Recent data and the
revised treatment recommendations for the management of inpatient hyperglycemia make education
for the multiple stakeholders extremely timely.
You are invited to host a national continuing education (CE) initiative entitled:
Safe and Effective Use of Insulin Therapy Through the Continuum of Hospital Care
The content of this educational initiative has been designed by a nationally recognized group of
experts on this topic. This initiative is focused on improving the knowledge of various health care
providers in the management of hospitalized patients experiencing hyperglycemia, with the goal of
improving outcomes. The contribution of a multidisciplinary steering committee of experts in the
development of the content of this evidence-based educational initiative will make it possible to offer
continuing education credits to physicians, nurses, and pharmacists who participate in these modules.
The entire content has been reviewed extensively for balance and scientific rigor.
Thisprogramoffersthreedifferentmodules.Eachmodulehasuniquecontentthathasbeendesignedto
be presented individually, or as part of a series of presentations. This enables you to choose the module
or modules that best meet the needs of your staff. This program also includes a choice of speakers.
• ModuleA: AchievingGlycemicControlintheHospitalSetting:ImplementingInsulinStrategies
This module provides an overview of inpatient hyperglycemia, its importance, and the approach to the
management of hyperglycemia from admission to discharge.
• Module B: Safe and Effective Use of Insulin in the Hospital Setting
This module reviews national guidelines and standardized protocols for the safe and effective use of
insulin in the inpatient setting.
• Module C: Inpatient Hyperglycemia: Planning for Effective Discharge
This module focuses on how to implement a smooth and safe transition of patients from the inpatient
to the outpatient setting.
This educational initiative is jointly sponsored by American Academy of CME and E&S MedEd Group, Inc.,
