PROFILE

More than 30 years experience as a University teacher (& Professional Engineer) in the
field of Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering including research, teaching
and supervising research projects to the under-graduates and graduates students in
developing process for indigenous Activated Carbon, Reactor Design, Feasibility studies,
Water Quality Monitoring, Coastal Pollution, Industrial pollution, , Land Use Assessment
through GIS, Sea water intrusion, Irrigation Drainage Systems & Ecology, Water Logging
& Salinity impacts on crops, Water Resource Management.

More than 14 years Administrative & Management experience first as a Chairman,
Chemical Engineering Department & then Director, Institute of Environmental Engineering
& Management (Since it’s Inception) in Mehran University Jamshoro.

More than 10 years worked experience as Environmental Engineer/Specialist in various
activities such as planning, designing M.E course in Environmental Engineering, &
developing PC-1 for the establishing the Institute of Environmental Engineering &
Management in Mehran University, Jamshoro. Conducted different environmental studies
through national & international organizations.

As Curriculum Development Consultant (Environmental Technology), worked with ACCC,
Canadian Consultants for 6 months on Technical Education Project (ADB Loan # 1373, Pak-
(SF) Ministry of Education, Pakistan) to develop need based Curriculum on
Environmental Technology for diploma holders of Government College of Technology,
Raiwand Lahore.

Worked as an Environmental Specialist in the Sindh Irrigation & Drainage Authority
(SIDA) to introduce the Institutional Reforms, as per the agenda of National Drainage
Program (NDP) to achieve the goals of equitable and reliable water supply to all farmers
through participatory irrigation. Here I worked with all stakeholders including the Farmers
Organizations (FOs) to develop strategy & schemes to implement the NDP ”
Environmental Management Plan (EMP) ” through the establishment of EMU in SIDA.
Environmental issues were addressed to minimize the environmental Impacts resulting
from surface drainage rehabilitation projects.

Provided trainings to the Engineers of Public Health Engineering & other field Engineers
on WHO Training Course on “ Reuse of Treated Effluents in Agriculture”. Training the
B.Tech Engineer, NGOs & students on Environmental Issues. Gave In-house training to
Sandoze (Pvt.) Ltd. on Environmental Engineering to strengthen the knowledge of HSE
personnel. Recently (2006) organized the 3-day Professional Development training
course on “MMS” for industry personnel.

Trained Civil Aviation Technicians on “Air Pollution and Ozone Depletion substances”.
Trained, Senior Managers of Industry in collaboration with Sindh EPA, Hyderabad.

“Direct Reduction of Iron Ore” (Gas-Solid Reactions) has remained my Ph.D field while
the Masters Dissertation work was related with the Hydrodynamics of “Spouted Bed”. The
Application of different reaction control models was made during my Ph.D research work.
The Effect of Bitumen binder was evaluated on the crushing strength & Hydrogen
reduction of Hematite & Magnetite superconcentrate. The purpose was to produce a high
purity sponge iron, suitable for a direct steel process.

Since last 8 years, I am Working as Editor of “Quarterly Mehran University Research
Journal of Engineering & Technology [ISSN-0254-7821]” published regularly since 1982.

Curriculum Development

30 students in the Institute of Environmental Engineering & Management in
Mehran University Jamshoro.
2. Designed the Post graduate certificate Course on Waste Management in
Collaboration with Brunel University UK. under HEC-BC Linkage Program
3. Developed the ”Urban Water Demand Management” module in collaboration with
Exeter University, UK through the DelPHE Project. This has been launched from
January 2010 in the ME Program of IEEM, Mehran Univesity Jamshoro

Linkage Programs Established

1. The HEC-BC Joint Higher Education Links Programme with Brunel University has
been won in April, 2006. The Programme Proposal on “Waste Treatment and
Management” was co-authored and initiated as a Chairman Chemical Engineering
Department MUET, Jamshoro in November, 2006. This linkage programme will
continue for three years from 2007.

2. DelPHE(Developing Partnerships in Higher Education)Project was
won on: “Capacity Building for Urban Water Demand
Management” as a lead partner in 2008, having Exeter University as
a UK partner with 2 partners (NCEAC,Jamshoro & SAU, Tando jam )
from Pakistan.
Summary/ Aim: To develop a research base on aspects related to
urban water demand management and enhance capacity at
institutional and national level through structured knowledge transfer
and provision of pilot scale demonstration sites for selected water
demand management options.

Our Habitat, Our Home”. University teachers & students participated in this seminar.
o Organized one day workshop on “ Environmental Advances in Water Engineering &
Management ” at Mehran University Jamshoro on Dec. 19, 1995. Dr. T. H. Tebbutt,
WHO Consultant was the main speaker.
o Organized world Environment Day on 5th June 1995 with the active collaboration of
Strengthening Participatory Organization, Sindh Hyderabad - a well known NGO. The
theme was “We the people united for the global Environment”. This was largely
attended by the NGOs.
o Organized a week program on ‘ Living with better Environment” at Mehran University
Jamshoro from 16 – 21 April 1994. The following three Seminars were arranged
including the events of Walk a cause, Car rally, Exhibition, Hyde Park Show.
