Author
George Mayzell, MD, MBA is currently a princi-
pal with Rx Health Partners LLC, a healthcare con-
sulting company. He was most recently the senior
vice president, chief medical officer, and chief
clinical integration officer of AMITA Health, the
joint operating company formed in February 2015
by Adventist Midwest Health, based in Hinsdale,
Illinois, and Alexian Brothers Health System, based
in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
AMITA Health encompasses nine hospitals and
an extensive physician provider network of more
than 3000 physicians. Dr. Mayzell, who joined the
organization in January 2013, worked with hospi-
tals, payers, and providers in unique partnership models to build account-
able care organizations, population health programs, and care management
models of the future.
Dr. Mayzell previously served as CEO of Health Choice and senior vice
president of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis, Tennessee.
Per Dr. Mayzell, “AMITA Health is an organization committed to change
and to adopting new healthcare delivery models that will be critical in what
promises to be challenging economic times.”
Dr. Mayzell has more than 30 years of experience in medicine and is a
board-certified internist and geriatrician. He earned his medical degree from
the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and his MBA from
Jacksonville University.
He previously served as senior medical director of managed care for the
University of Florida and Shands Hospital. He spent more than 10 years with

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, working as regional medical director for
care and quality and corporate managing medical director for pharmacy and
care. Additionally, he has more than 10 years of practice experience.
Dr. Mayzell has coauthored seven books, including Leveraging Lean in
Healthcare and Physician Alignment: Constructing Viable Roadmaps for the
Future.
