Учебное пособие по тематическому циклу «Физиология» составлено в соответствии с
требованиями ФГОС ВПО по дисциплине «Иностранный язык» специальности Лечебное
дело. Данное учебное пособие содержит адаптированные тексты на английском языке,
сопровождаемые системой лексико-грамматических упражнений и коммуникативных
заданий. В учебное пособие включены тексты для внеаудиторного чтения с упражнениями,
краткий грамматический справочник, дополнительный текстовый материал для письменного
перевода, поурочный словарь. Для оценивания уровня усвоения учебного материала в
пособие включены тесты с эталонами ответов.
Учебное пособие предназначено для самостоятельной аудиторной и внеаудиторной
работы студентов 1-го курса лечебного факультета.

Методическая записка
Учебное пособие для студентов 1 курса лечебного факультета «Physiology»
разработано в соответствии с Федеральным государственным образовательным
стандартом высшего профессионального образования по направлению
подготовки (специальности) «Лечебное дело».
Учебное пособие включает в себя адаптированные тексты, заимствованные
из современных научных сборников. Тексты сопровождаются комплексом
упражнений, предназначенных для введения, закрепления и автоматизации
лексико-грамматического материала, развития навыков различных видов
чтения профессионально-ориентированной литературы, а также
диалогической и монологической речи на базе полученной информации.
Учебное пособие составлено с учетом специфики учебного процесса по
иностранному языку на лечебном факультете.
Целью данного пособия является дальнейшее развитие будущими
медиками основ иноязычной компетенции, необходимых для
профессиональной межкультурной коммуникации.
Иноязычная компетенция как основа профессионального иноязычного
общения включает:
- языковую и речевую компетенции, позволяющие использовать
иностранный язык для получения профессионально значимой
информации, используя разные виды чтения;
- коммуникативную компетенцию, позволяющую участвовать в устном и
письменном профессиональном общении на иностранном языке;
- социокультурную компетенцию, обеспечивающую эффективное
участие в общении с представителями других культур.
В ходе достижения цели решаются следующие задачи:
- совершенствование навыков работы студентов с научным стилем
медицинской литературы, с основными видами словарно-справочной
литературы;
- углубление знаний студентов в области лексики и грамматики
изучаемого языка (применительно к специфике подъязыка медицины);
- совершенствование умения извлекать и фиксировать полученную из
иноязычного текста информацию (устно и письменно);
- обучение студентов основным принципам самостоятельной работы с
оригинальной литературой;
- овладение новыми языковыми средствами;
- систематизация ранее полученных знаний;
- увеличение объема знаний за счет информации профессионального
характера.
В результате изучения дисциплины студент должен:
знать:

- лексический минимум, необходимый для возможности
профессионально-ориентированной коммуникации и получения
информации из зарубежных источников;
- базовую медицинскую терминологию на иностранном языке;
- базовую грамматику и основные грамматические явления, характерные
для профессиональной речи;
уметь:
- читать и переводить со словарём и без словаря литературу в области
профессиональной деятельности на иностранном языке с целью поиска
и извлечения информации;
- использовать терминологические единицы в рамках устной и
письменной иноязычной коммуникации;
- логично и связно представлять информацию в устной и письменной
формах;
- вести диалог на бытовом уровне, в ситуациях профессионального
общения;
владеть:
- иностранным языком в объеме, необходимом для возможности
профессиональной и бытовой коммуникации с иностранными
коллегами и получения информации из зарубежных источников;
- навыками логического построения монологической речи.
Учебное пособие рекомендуется как дополнительный материал к базовому
учебнику для лечебного факультета под редакцией Марковиной И. Ю.
«Английский язык: Учебник для медицинских вузов и медицинских
специалистов» как для аудиторной, так и для внеаудиторной самостоятельной
работы студентов.

Circulation. Blood functions

1. The activity of the organs of the circulatory system, i.e.¹ of the heart and
blood vessels, ensures a constant flow of blood in the organism. The movement of
blood follows a complicated course known as the systemic, or greater circulation, and
the pulmonary, or lesser. The systemic circulation starts at the left ventricle of the
heart, passes to the aorta, to the arteries originating from it and to all their branches,
then to the arterioles, capillaries, and the veins of the whole body, and finally to the
two venae cavae which enter the right atrium. The pulmonary circulation begins from
the right ventricle, continues along the pulmonary artery and all its branches, then
along the pulmonary arterioles, capillaries, and veins, and terminates in the
pulmonary veins which empty into the left atrium.
2. Physiologists have determined that the blood makes up approximately 7%²
of the body weight. Its volume in the adult varies from 4 to 5 litres. Blood carries two
groups of constituents: a) substances which are specific parts of the blood, and b)
nutrients and waste materials. The specific blood constituents include inorganic salts,
plasma proteins, immunizing agents and blood cells.
3. Because of its movement the blood can perform numerous transport
functions, in particular, supplying oxygen and nutrients to the tissues, and removing
substances formed as the result of metabolism. Other functions of blood include the
regulation of the heat of the body and aid in the development of immunity.
4. Inorganic salts function in determining the osmotic pressure of the blood.
Calcium is essential in producing the chemical changes necessary in the coagulation
of blood. It also influences the rate of the heartbeat. Phosphorus helps maintain the
neutral state of the blood. Iron is the essential constituent of the oxygen carrying
compound in red corpuscles.
5. Scientists have found out that plasma proteins make up from 7 to 8% of the
weight of the plasma. One of the plasma proteins, fibrinogen, is essential in the
clotting of the blood.
6. The immunizing agents present in the blood consist of antigens and
antibodies. The latter are produced by the body cells under the stimulation of antigens
and give partial or complete immunity.
