En «La Guardia y La Ronda», los personajes transforman sus roles radicalmente, pero en el fondo y, a pesar de su mirada, la historia sigue siendo la misma. Finalmente, en «Los Amigos» y «Aquí Abajo», Goytisolo parece centrar su atención ya no sólo en el absentismo, sino que sugiere, en el desarrollo de estos dos relatos, el problema de la falta de voluntad para la transformación.
