Предисловие
В современном мире особая роль отводится обучению деловому
общению на английском языке, как языке международного общения.
Интенсивный метод обучения иностранным языкам предполагает
развитие психологических особенностей обучаемых, повышение
интеллектуальной активности личности и стимулирование мотивации
студентов неязыкового к овладению иностранным языком.
Учебное пособие предназначено для студентов экономических
специальностей и выступает в качестве дополнительного источника
информации к учебнику “Market Leader”, New Edition. Course book.
Intermediate Business English" (Изд-во “Longman”).
Пособие знакомит со структурой и функционированием
государственных компаний, коммерческих и некоммерческих
предприятий и общественных организаций. Это позволяет приобщить
студентов к соответствующей профессионально-деловой сфере и
повысить уровень профессиональной компетенции обучаемых.
Основными разделами пособия "Organisation Today" являются:
Warming up, Organisation, Vocabulary, Appendix, and Answer key.
Основная часть пособия, “Organisation”, включает различные типы
упражнений, направленных на развитие и дальнейшее
совершенствование коммуникативных навыков делового английского
языка.
Словарь пособия представлен терминами, терминологическими
сочетаниями и идиоматическими выражениями современного делового
языка. Большое внимание в пособии уделено фонетической
транскрипции сложных терминов.

I. Warming up
JUST REMEMBER!
Pronunciation: The verb “organise [′O:gJ,naIz]” was the first.
Then the noun “organisation
[,O:gJnaI′zeIS(J)n]” came.
Spelling: organise/organisation – a British spelling
organize/organization – an American spelling
YOU’LL BE ALWAYS RIGHT!
Organisation can be used as a general word for a business, club, society,
government department, political party, trade union, foundation, pressure
group or charity. It is not usually used to refer to a school, college or
university. Charity and foundation are organisations that are established to
invest money and use the profits for a particular purpose, for example for
scientific research or charity. (Oxford Learner’s Thesaurus)
What are abbreviations, acronyms
and initialisms?
In English many words and expressions are made simpler by using a
shortened form. But interestingly, while most people are aware of the word
“abbreviation”; and some are also familiar with the term “acronym”; most
however, have never come across the terms “initialism” or “alphabetism”.
Also, most people do not differentiate initialisms from either acronyms or
abbreviations.
In order to understand the difference between these three terms, it is best to
look at examples.
The following are abbreviations: Mr, Mrs, Ms, St., Ct., Mt.
The following are initialisms: USA, BBC, CIA.
The following are acronyms: NATO, OPEC, NASA.
Abbreviations are pronounced like the full words they represent. So “Mr.” is
pronounced “Mister”, “St.” is pronounced “Street” (or “Saint”) and “Ct.” is
pronounced “Court” etc. In American English, basic abbreviations are
usually followed by a period. In British English, abbreviations are not
followed by a period.

Mr. (AmE) = Mr (BrE) = Mister (not usually written in full)
Ltd = limited company
An apostrophe (‘) is sometimes used before the (s) in the plurals of
abbreviations.
MP’s, CD’s or (more often) MPs, CDs.
Some initialisms (or alphabetisms) are made from the first letters of several
words. This often happens with the names of organisations.
the BBC = the British Broadcasting Corporation
These abbreviations are most often stressed on the last letter.
the BBC / DJ bi: bi: ′si:/ the USA /DJ ju: es ′eI/
Initialisms unlike abbreviations are pronounced one letter at a time. If one of
these initialisms has an article (a/an or the), the form and pronunciation of the
article depend on pronunciation of the first letter of the initialism.
an EU country
a US diplomat /J ju:…/ (NOT an US…)
an MP /Jn em.../ (NOT a MP)
the USA /DJ ju:…/ (NOT /Di: ju:…/)
the RSPCA /Di: A:r…/ (NOT DJ A:r…/).
Acronyms are abbreviated forms of expressions that contain several words
that are always used together. Acronyms are usually created by combining
the first letter of each word in the expression.
True acronyms are always pronounced as if they were one word. Articles are
usually dropped in acronyms. UNESCO (NOT the UNESCO).
Of course (and as might be expected) there are many examples of short
“word-like” words that do not conveniently fit into one category of another.
Such “words” as JPEG and CD ROM (each pronounced as a combination of
letters and a “word”) or AAA and NAACP (pronounced “Triple-A” and “N
double-A C P) defy categorisation entirely.
And finally, most people do not know the difference between an acronym, an
abbreviation and an initialism for the simple reason there is no universal
agreement on the precise definition of these terms. There is no any rule, so
OGK (only God knows).

Mr. (AmE) = Mr (BrE) = Mister – is used before a man’s name when you are
speaking or referring to him.
Mrs. (AmE) = Mrs (BrE) = Missis - is used before the name of a married
woman when you are speaking or referring to her.
Miss [mIs] - is used before the name of a girl or unmarried woman when you
are speaking or referring to her.
Ms. (AmE) = Ms (BrE) = [mJz] - is used before a woman’s name when you
are speaking or referring to her. If you use Ms, you are not specifying if the
woman is married or not.
Ms = [mJz] - is an abbreviation of a very popular business proverb: “Mind
your own business” (не лезь не в свое дело!)
