Preface
Thisdictionaryistheresultofbeing,asDr.SamuelJohnsonputit,"aharmlessdrudge"forsome
thirtyyears. Ittookthislongpartlybecause,withafull timeteachingandresearchpositionin
anotherfield,Iworkedonthisdictionaryonweekendsandatnight,andpartlybecauseIdecided
toincorporatecitationsfromNezPerceliteraturetomakethedictionaryakindofconcordance
aswell, sothatareadercan tellhowacertainword isusedin traditional Nez Percefolktales.
ThoughIdidthedrudgerymyself,110onepersoncanwriteadictionaryofalanguagewithout
