<p>A dying promise to protect her....<br> Benedick Barrett's only real problem growing up was that he was named after a character in a Shakespeare play. After his best friend is shot in a senseless duel, Benedick Barrett makes his dying friend a promise to watch over his sister, who just happens to also be named after the heroine in the same play, and whom he has always hated. When Benedick returns to London after the Napoleonic Wars, however, he finds himself having to escort his nemesis Beatrice from ballroom to ballroom. Benedick finds himself attracted to the very woman he has despised for years, and if that weren't enough, the very man who killed Beatrice's brother returns to London to claim Beatrice for his own! Benedick must struggle through his own feelings before Beatrice, and his very happiness, is lost to him forever. </p> <p>**</p>From the Author <p>Thank you very much for reading <em>Much Ado about the Shrew</em>. One of my favorite plays by Shakespeare is <em>Much Ado about Nothing</em> , and I have always loved in the interaction between Beatrice and Benedick. My original intention was to focus the majority of the novel on those two characters, but as I continued to write, two minor characters (Lord Welles and Lord Milford) shoved their way into the novel to the point that they appear almost as much as Benedick and Beatrice. In fact, they were so much fun to write, that I had to continually refocus the plot line back to my romantic couple. As it stands currently, I believe that Welles and Milford help to balance the novel and lend a sense of comedic relief to an otherwise tense book. </p> <p>One of the major differences between this romance and many others I have read is that it is written, for the most part, solely from Benedick's point-of-view. Most romances give the reader insight between two of the main characters, but I sometimes think that this structure does not give the reader enough credit to being able to challenge the main character. Benedick is not perfect by any means, and he struggles and stumbles through the novel trying to reconcile his feelings with Beatrice. I believe, however, that the reader is fully capable of determining when Benedick is truly being an ass without needing Beatrice's insight.</p> <p>I have tried to remain true to the spirit of Shakespeare's play, while still playing with the characters and plot line so the novel is a unique reading experience. I hope that you enjoy reading it, as I certainly enjoyed writing it. </p> From the Inside Flap <p>"Whatdo you want to give me?" Bee tried to keep her voice level, but instead itcame out breathy, and innocently seductive.Her tongue darted out to lick her lips.Ben felt his insides tighten, and squelched the desire to grab her andhave his way with her right there on the settee. He knew his entire body shouldbe repulsed merely by the thought, but he could not get over how full and ripeher lips were. How could she not be kissed? They were just waiting for him, thefirst man to ever touch them.<br> "Your first kiss," hewhispered.<br> "I don't want it," Beesaid breathlessly, but did not turn her head.<br> "You're sure?" Benmurmured. <br> "Yes, I... yes," sheanswered, but still she did not move.<br> "Yes, as in you're sure, oryes, as in kiss you?" Ben pulled her closer, ignoring every alarm that wasblaring in his brain. All he could do was touch her and smell her and... Lord,how he wanted to taste her.<br> "What?" Bee breathed."Kiss you?"<br> "I thought you'd neverask," Ben whispered, and finally, <em>finally</em> ,brought his lips gently to hers. </p>
