Observe these instructions tokeepthe instrumentoperatinginacorrectandsafe condition. Youare
requiredtofollowgenerallyacceptedsafetyprocedures inadditiontothe precautions specifiedinthis
section. The overall safetyofanysystem incorporatingthis instrumentis the responsibilityofthe
assemblerofthe system.

These symbols appearonthe instrument's frontandrearpanels orinits documentationtoalertyouto
importantsafetyconsiderations:
CAUTIONofpotential damage toinstrument, orWARNING ofpotential bodilyinjury. Donot
proceeduntil the informationis fullyunderstoodandconditions are met.
Highvoltage. Risk ofelectric shock orburn.
Frame orchassis terminal (groundconnection).
Alternatingcurrent.
Standbypower(frontofinstrument).
Precautions
Use onlythe properpowercordshippedwiththis instrumentandcertifiedforthe countryofuse.
Maintainground. This productis groundedthroughthe powercordgroundingconductor. Toavoidelectric
shock, connectonlytoagroundedmatingoutlet.
Connectanddisconnectproperly. Donotconnect/disconnectprobes ortestleads while theyare
connectedtoavoltage source.
Observe all terminal ratings. Donotapplyavoltage toanyinputthatexceeds the maximum ratingofthat
input. Refertothe frontofthe instrumentformaximum inputratings.
Use onlywithinoperational environmentlisted. Donotuse inwetorexplosive atmospheres.
Use indoors only.
Keepproductsurfaces cleananddry. See Cleaning.
Donotblock the coolingvents. Leave aminimum six-inch(15cm) gapbetweenthe instrumentandthe
nearestobject. Keepthe underside clearofpapers andotherobjects.
Donotremove the covers orinside parts. Referall maintenance toqualifiedservice personnel.

Donotoperate withsuspectedfailures. Donotuse the productifanypartis damaged. Obviously
incorrectmeasurementbehaviors (suchas failure tocalibrate) mightindicate impairmentdue to
hazardous live electrical quantities. Cease operationimmediatelyandsequesterthe instrumentfrom
inadvertentuse.
Operating Environment
Temperature: 5to40°C.
Humidity: Maximum relative humidity90% fortemperatures upto31°C, decreasinglinearlyto50%
relative humidityat40°C.
Altitude: Upto3,000m atorbelow30°C.
Cooling
The instrumentrelies onforcedaircoolingwithinternal fans andvents. Take care toavoidrestrictingthe
airflowtoanypart. Aroundthe sides andrear, leave aminimum of15cm (6inches) betweenthe
instrumentandthe nearestobject. The feetprovide adequate bottom clearance.
CAUTION.Donotblock coolingvents. Always keepthe areabeneaththe instrumentclearof
paperandotheritems.
The instrumentalsohas internal fancontrol circuitrythatregulates the fanspeedbasedonthe ambient
temperature. This is performedautomaticallyafterstart-up.
Power
ACPower
The instrumentoperates from asingle-phase, 100-240Vrms (± 10%) ACpowersource at50/60Hz(± 5%)
ora100-120Vrms (± 10%) ACpowersource at400Hz(± 5%). Manual voltage selectionis notrequired
because the instrumentautomaticallyadapts tothe line voltage.
PowerConsumption
Maximum powerconsumptionwithall accessories installed(e.g., active probes, USBperipherals, digital
leadset) is 550W (550VA). Powerconsumptioninstandbymode is 10W.
Ground
The ACinletgroundis connecteddirectlytothe frame ofthe instrument. Foradequate protectionagain
electric shock, connecttoamatingoutletwithasafetygroundcontact.
WARNING.Onlyuse the powercordprovidedwithyourinstrument. Interruptingthe protective
conductor(inside oroutside the case), ordisconnectingthe safetygroundterminal, creates a
hazardous situation. Intentional interruptionis prohibited.

Start Up
Carrying and Placing
The instrument’s case contains abuilt-incarryinghandle. Liftthe handle awayfrom the body, grasp
firmlyandliftthe instrument. Always unplugthe instrumentfrom the powersource before movingit.
Place the instrumentwhere itwill have aminimum 15cm (6inch) clearance from the nearestobject. Be
sure there are nopapers orotherdebris underneathorblockingthe coolingvents.
CAUTION.Donotplace the instrumentsothatitis difficulttoreachthe powercordincase you
needtoquicklydisconnectfrom power.
Positioning the Feet
Totiltthe bodyback slightlyforeasierbenchtopviewing, pull the small
flaps onthe bottom ofthe feetawayfrom the bodyofthe instrument.
Powering On/Off
Press the Standbybuttontoturnonthe instrument; press itagaintoturn"off" (reducedpower
mode). The X-Stream applicationloads automaticallywhenyouuse the Standbybutton.
CAUTION.Donotchange the instrument’s Windows®PowerOptions settingfrom the default
NevertoSystem StandbyorSystem Hibernate. Doingsocancause the system tofail.
CAUTION.Donotpoweronorcalibrate withasignal attached.
Always use the Standbybuttonorthe File > Shutdownmenuoptiontoexecute apropershutdown
process andpreserve settings before poweringdown. Donotpoweroffbypullingthe powercordfrom the
socketorshuttingoffaconnectedpowerstripwithoutfirstshuttingdownproperly.
The Standbybuttondoes notdisconnectthe instrumentfrom the ACpowersupply. The onlywaytofully
powerdownthe instrumentis tounplugthe ACpowercord.
We recommendunpluggingthe instrumentifitwill remainunusedforalongperiodoftime.

Software Activation
The operatingsoftware (firmware andstandardapplications) is active upondelivery. Atpower-up, the
instrumentloads the software automatically.
Firmware
Free firmware updates are available periodicallyfrom the Teledyne LeCroywebsite at:
teledynelecroy.com/support/softwaredownload
Registeredusers canreceive anemail notificationwhenanewupdate is released. Followthe
instructions onthe website todownloadandinstall the software.
PurchasedOptions
Ifyoudecide topurchase anoption, youwill receive alicense keyviaemail thatactivates the optional
features. See AddinganOptionKeyforinstructions onactivatingoptional software packages.
X-Stream Application Window
X-Stream (base application) runs onaWindows operatingsystem andfunctions exactlyas doother
Windows applications.
Tominimize the applicationwindowandshowthe Windows desktop, choose File > Minimize. Torestore
the windowafterminimizing, touchthe displayiconinthe lowerrightcornerofthe desktop.
Toexitthe applicationwindow, choose File > Exit. Whenyouexitthe application, the operatingsystem
continues torun. Toreloadthe applicationafterexiting, touchthe StartDSOdesktopshortcut.
Screen Saver
As onanyWindows PC, ascreensavercanbe enabledtobeginafterapresetidle time, ordisabled:
1. Minimize the X-Stream applicationbychoosingFile > Minimize from the menubar.
2. Openthe Windows Control Panel tochange Appearance andPersonalizationsettings.
3. Touchthe displayiconatthe bottom rightofthe desktoptorestore the instrumentdisplay.
