This map, entitled "Americæ Septentrionalis Pars," was made by A. Jacobsen for
the Dutch
West India Company in 1621. It shows New Netherland and the Atlantic
coastline of North
and Central America. Only a very small portion of the Hudson River beyond its
mouth
appears on this map.

NEW NETHERLAND IN THE TIME OF MINUIT
From a survey made sometime during the period 1626-1632, while Peter Minuit
was Director, the map opposite, of
New Netherland was produced c. 1665 by Johannes Vingboon (variant spellings
of his name appear as Vingboons and
Vingboom). This map shows a much greater portion of the Hudson River, here
labeled "De Noorde Rivier" or North
River. A modem map showing the full length of the Hudson River serves as the
Frontispiece in this volume.
