This article describes a study that aimed to examine qualitative workload, career development, and personal responsibility regarding work stress risk among 67 air traffic controllers at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, Indonesia. The study found that 52.2% of controllers experienced moderate work stress. It also found that controllers' qualitative workload (71.6%), career development (59.7%), and personal responsibility (53.7%) were mostly in the moderate category. The results indicate that air traffic controllers experience several risk factors for work stress, especially related to their qualitative workload. The study recommends that airport management provide regular training to help controllers update their skills and reduce work stress risk factors.
