This document summarizes a study that investigated the relationships between internal lean practices, supply chain relationships, operational performance, and organizational performance. The study analyzed data from 228 manufacturing companies in Ireland. The results showed that supplier partnerships and customer relationships were positively associated with internal lean practices. Internal lean practices were positively associated with both operational and organizational performance. However, technological turbulence was found to negatively moderate the relationships between internal lean practices and both types of performance. So the benefits of lean practices for performance depend on the rate of technological change.
