<p>Terni. Stabilimento della Acciai Speciali. Un incidente ai forni, con involontari protagonisti il caposquadra e un addetto alle movimentazioni. Sotto accusa Sergio Asciutti, operaio di linea, fratello dell’amministratore delegato, e Giulio, manovratore della gru. Il primo rimane al suo posto in sala controllo, mentre il secondo, dopo essere stato retrocesso a un compito marginale, medita vendetta, cercando di truffare l’azienda per compensare il torto subìto. Nondimeno la dirigenza si appresta a cedere il controllo dello stabilimento e ognuno, nella squadra di lavoro capitanata da Sergio, reagisce secondo indole e necessità familiari, nella fosca prospettiva di restare senza lavoro. Il disimpegno della proprietà tedesca, a vantaggio di una società russa apparsa all’orizzonte senza dare grandi garanzie economiche, è il preludio a polemiche, scioperi e scontri. La compattezza dei sindacati, per altro, si sfilaccia, compromessa dal coinvolgimento del padre dei fratelli Asciutti, finito nel mezzo degli scontri tra operai e poliziotti durante una manifestazione. Il rapporto tra i due fratelli, già minato dalla diversa posizione all’interno della struttura aziendale, si spezza.
