La singolarita di and “Il Mondo Estremo and ” fa si che il lettore sia coinvolto nella ricerca di Cotta e ritrovi, attraverso di lui, un mondo siamo ai giorni nostri – in cui il mito si trasfigura in realta. Ecco allora che il contesto diviene minutamente realistico e, per esempio, alla sera, nella desolata piazza della ferrigna Tomi, giunge Cypari, un and “proiezionista and ” ambulante, che mostra un film d’amore disperato in cui la bella Alcione viene trasformata, assieme al compianto sposo, in un uccello marino. Cotta trovera presso Tomi, a Trachila, in montagna, la casa di Ovidio. Lo aiutera Pitagora di Samo, ridotto a servo di Ovidio, e, nel folto dei boschi cupi e terribili, sotto una coltre di lumache striscianti, appariranno delle pietre con i versi incisi dal poeta. E ancora, in una memorabile alba, mentre si consumano i riti del carnevale, apparira un corteo di pazzi, travestiti chi da dio Sole, chi da Medea, chi da Orfeo… Recitano strani versi di un’opera distrutta dall’autore, ma non scomparsa: le Metamorfosi.
