“Hacia una Sociedad Ecológica”, fue preparado como conferencia para las Future World Lecture Series (Ciclo de Conferencias sobre el Mundo Futuro), de la Universidad de Michigan (Ann Arbor), el 19 de febrero de 1973; según consta en la bibliografía preparada por J. Biehl. Fue publicado en 1974, en el n° 3 de “Roots” (New York); y republicado el mismo año en la edición del 28 de marzo de “Win Magazine” y el n° 13 de Philosophica (revista del Departamento de Filosofía y Cs. Morales de la Universidad de Gante, Bélgica). En 1980, fue incluido en el volumen recopilatorio “Toward an Ecological Society”; Black Rose Books, Montreal. Ha sido traducido al español como “Por una sociedad ecológica”, en el volumen homónimo y compilatorio de trabajos de M. Bookchin, por Josep Elias (“Por una sociedad ecológica”; Editorial Gustavo Gili; Barcelona, 1978).
