Burkhard Moennighoff sichtet Goethes Gedichttitel nach Massgabe von Voraussetzungen, die in einem gemischt deduktiv-induktiven Vorgehen gewonnen werden. Die Beschreibung von Goethes Titelkunst orientiert sich am Leitfaden der Entwicklungsgeschichte seiner Lyrik (unter Berucksichtigung der Goethischen Gedichtsammlungen), beginnend mit den Gedichten des Knaben und endend mit den Alterslyrica.
