Okay, Okay,...calm down! We said
"New on the BLOCK," not "New Kids on
the BLOCK"! --And, that's exactly what we
mean. It's about BLOCK schedules,
BLOCKheads and BLOCKbusters. It's
about the 90 minute classes we barely
survived and the 10 minute breaks that
hardly seemed long enough. It's about
laughs and tears and all the years that the
"last freshmen" and the underclassmen
experienced together and on their own. So
come inside and experience being New on
the BLOCK.

At the famous "hallway hangout,"
Senior Rachel Babis uses her lunch privi¬
lege. "Sitting on the ledge has been a
senior tradition for as long as I've been
here and probably longer," said Rachel.

As the bell rings, Senior John Fretts
gently pulls Senior Jennifer Franklin into
Mrs. Ann Mizelle's SAT Prep class.
Risking the possibility of a tardy, Jenni¬
fer decides to finish listening to the
latest school gossip.
Lunchroom Looney
Too early and not too hungry—Senior Heath Stacey shows
how talented and funny he can be. "Lunch A is too early, and
I'm not hungry, but it is good for football. Lunch B is when
I'm hungry, but when I get in football practice I have cramps,"
said Heath.

The BLOCK schedule—everyone has heard
about it, everyone's experienced the
difference...the 90 minute classes, remembering
which class to go to which day and what
homework to do. To an outsider it might seem
quite mind-boggling, but to people who have
experienced the BLOCK, it is a big change.
WAY!
"I like it, but it's almost too difficult to keep
my job and go to school at the same time. But, I
figure I'll benefit from it because this will have
taught me to handle all that responsibility," said
Junior Tomi Dean.
Some people admit that the BLOC was
not what they expected.
"[The BLOG schedule] was not as bad as I
thought it would be from the start. So far, [it's]
been a challenge and a lot of work," said Senior
Justin Wiggins.
Many have faced the challenges: the new
attendance policy that allowed only 10 absences
and 3 tardies (!), and for the 250 seniors, the
huge BLOCK of 364 sophomores. (Okay...so they
were a little outnumbered!)
But, surviving the BLOG scheduling was,
for the most part..., painless (maybe).

Rush, Rush, Rush!!! Get that
homework done. Study for two tests and
read a book all before three o'clock (when
you have to go to work)! Okay... it might
not have been that way with every
BLOCK, but thank golly goodness for the
activities students did to relax—loitering at
Friendly's or going to a party or even just
hangin' around with a friend from around
the BLOCK. Not to mention homecoming
week or the Back to school dance that 103
attended.
Life’s a circus under the big top. Junior
Kelly Hadden laughs at her attempt to blow
up a clown balloon during the homecoming
dance. Senior Lee Hutchens puffs on his
balloon while Senior Christina Mesce watches
with amusement.
