About Effect of Note Taking On Listening Comprehension
This study investigated the effects of note-taking instruction and note-taking language on Taiwanese college EFL students' listening comprehension. 54 students received note-taking instruction using the Cornell method while 54 did not. Students either took notes in English or Chinese. Those who received instruction and took notes in English scored highest on a listening comprehension test of short conversations and long lectures. The study showed that explicit note-taking instruction is valuable for improving EFL students' listening comprehension, and encouraging note-taking in English rather than their native language better supports comprehending English content.
