Thethermal effects in the Concentric Canister"missile" Launcher(CCL) due to afire inan adjacent compartmentare
simulated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). A commercial codedevelopedby CFD Research Corporation
(CFDRC) was used to implement the process. This study developeda model for the centersection ofthe A-module,
placed in theforward missile launcherofthe ArleighBurke (DDG-51) classdestroyer. Twofire scenerios areappliedto
the aftbulkhead ofthe launcher. Thefirst fire scenerio is indicativeofthe high temperaturefirecausedby unburned
Exocet missile propellant experienced by the USS STARK (FFG-31) in the Arabian Gulf. The secondfire scenerio
applied to the model simulates the conditionscaused by a ruptured shipboardF-76 diesel fuel tank, due toacollision at
sea. Thefire scenerios are usedto predict the timeand locationofthe critical cook-offtemperatures ofthe missile's solid
and liquid fuel propellants in the CCL.
