Introduction
Composite materials have become a recognized subject in their own right both in the fields of research and
applications. However, the subject is multidisciplinary and to achieve the best results it is often advisable to
consult specialists working on several different aspects - ranging, for example, from fibre-matrix
interactions to in-service performance and long-term testing. Concurrent with the growth of the composites
industry there has been an increase in international co-operation regarding the use and development of
these materials.
It is with these points in mind that this Directory of Research in Europe has been established. Its aim is to
provide a single source of information on individuals, research establishments (academic, independent , and
industrial) and research topics. The Directory is structured such that an enquiry into any one area will
rapidly provide full information on the related activities and research personnel .
We hope that this Directory will provide a real service to those working in - or entering - the field and will
help to promote contacts in a developing European composites community.

Introduction
Les materiaux composites sont devenus un sujet reconnu en tant que tel dans le domaine de la recherche
ainsi que dans celui des applications. Cependant , le sujet est pluridisciplinaire et, pour obtenir les meilleurs
rιsultats, il est souvent recommandable de s'adresser α des spιcialistes qui travaillent sur plusieurs aspects -
allant, par exemple, des interactions entre fibre et matrice δ la performance en service et aux essais α long
terme. La croissance de I'industrie des composites est intervenue en mιme temps qu 'une augmentat ion de la
cooperation internationale au niveau de I'utilisation et du dιveloppement de ees materiaux.
C'est en tenant compte de ees elements que le present Annuaire de la Recherche en Europe a ιtι creι . II
a pour objet de fournir une source unique de renseignements sur les individus, les ιtablissements consacrιs α
la recherche (universitaires, indιpendants et industriιis) et les sujets de recherche . L'annuaire est structure
de telle fagon qu 'une demande d'informations portant sur n ' importe quel domaine fournira rapidement des
informations completes en ce qui concerne les activitιs connexes et le personnel de recherche .
Nous espιrons que le present annuaire rendra un service reel α ceux qui travail dans ce domaine, ou qui y

Verbundstoffe werden heute sowohl im Bereich der Forschung als auch auf dem Sektor der Anwendungen
als eine eigenstδndige Materie anerkannt . Allerdings ist das Gebiet multidisziplinδr; zum Erzielen der
besten Resultate empfiehlt es sich daher in vielen Fδllen, die Fachleute zu Rate zu ziehen, die sich mit den

verschiedenen Aspekten befaίen - Aspekten wie, z.B., Faser-Matrix-Wechselwirkungen, Betriebsleistung
oder langfristige Pr٧fung. Mit dem Wachstum der Verbundstoffe-Industrie war eine gleichzeitige Steigerung
der internationalen Zusammenarbei t im Bereich der Verwendung und Entwicklung dieser Stoffe verbunden.
Diese Entwicklungen gaben den Anla ί f٧r die Zusammenstel lung des vorliegenden Verzeichniίes ٧ber
die Forschung in Europa. Das Ziel der Publikation besteht darin, eine umfaίende Informationsquelle ٧ber
die einzelnen Forsche r , Forschungs ins t i tu te (akademisch , unabhδng ig lind industr ie l l ) und
Forschungsthemen zu bieten. Das Verzeichnis ist so aufgebaut, da ί bei Fragen in allen Einzelbereichen

Using the Directory
The Directory is divided into 10 sections, with each section divided into the 9 European countries covered.
Although published in English, French and German , the Directory is designed for use without extensive
knowledge of these languages. Research staff and establishments are identified by numerical codes and
research activities are presented in tables.
Section I lists the names of people, in alphabetical order, involved in research and development work
involving composite materials. Each name is assigned a unique 4-digit code which provides a cross-reference
to Section 2. Section I also provides the name of the establishment where the person listed works.
Section 2 lists the establishments, in alphabetical order, with full postal addresses. For each establishment
there is a numerical code which identifies individual .research staff (from Section 1), the number of research
personnel associated with the named individual working on composite materials, the type of organization
(academic, independent or industrial) and whether or not the establishment accepts contract research.
Sections 3 to 10 provide details of research topics and activities covered by the people listed in Section 1.
Thus an enquiry about research on a particular subject in a particular country would start in Sections 3 to
10 (according to subject area) and would continue to Section 2 for full information about individuals and
establishments. Similarly, knowledge of a person's name will lead, from Section 1, to the country and
establishment and research activities; information about a particular establishment - the people working
there and the research activities - would start in Section 2.

commencerai t aux sections 3 α 10 (selon le domaine scientifique) et passerait α la section 2 pour obtenir des
informations completes relatives aux individus et aux ιtablissements. De mιme , si Ton connait le nom d'une
personne, ceci conduira, partant de la section 1, au pays, α l ' ι tablissement et aux activitιs de recherche ; les
informations relatives α un ιtablissement particulier - les personnes qui y travaillent et les activitιs de
recherche - commenceraient α la section 2.
Benutzung des Verzeichnißes
Das Verzeichnis besteht aus 10 Abschnit ten, die jeweils in die behandel ten 9 europδischen Lδnder unterteilt
sind. Obgleich die Verφffentlichung in englischer, franzφsischer und deutscher Sprache abgefaίt wurde, ist
eine eingehende Kenntnis dieser Sprachen f٧r ihre Benutzung nicht erforderlich. Das Forschungspersonal
und die Institute sind durch einen Zahlencode gekennzeichnet , wδhrend die Forschungsarbeiten in
Tabellenform dargestellt sind.
In Abschnitt 1 werden die Namen der mit Forschungs- und Entwicklungsarbeiten im Bereich von
Verbundstoffen beschδftigten Personen in alphabetischer Reihenfolge aufgef٧hrt. Jeder N a m e besitzt
seinen eigenen vierziffrigen Code, der einen Kreuzverweis auf Abschnitt 2 enthδlt . Au ί e rdem ist in Abschnitt
1 der Name des Institutes, in dem die aufgeh٧hrte Person arbeitet, verzeichnet.
In Abschnitt 2 sind die Institute mit vollstδndiger Postanschrift in alphabetischer Reihenfolge aufgef٧hrt.
Jedes der Institute besitzt einen Zahlencode, der die einzelnen Forscher (von Abschnit t 1), die Zahl der mit
dem genannten Forscher an Verbundstoffen arbeitenden Assistenten und die Art der Organisation
(akademisch, unabhδngig oder industriell) kennzeichnet sowie Aufschluί dar٧ber gibt, ob das Institut
Vertragsarbeit akzeptiert oder nicht.
Die Abschnitte 3 bis 10 enthalten Angaben ٧ber die von den in Abschnit t 1 aufgef٧hrten Personen
behandelten Forschungsthemen und -aktivitδten.
So w٧rde eine Frage bez٧glich eines bestimmten Forschungsgebietes in einem bestimmten Land bei
Abschnitt 3 bis 10 (je nach Themenbereich) beginnen und in Abschnit t 2 bez٧glich genauer Informationen
٧ber Einzelpersonen und Institute fortgesetzt werden. In δhnlicher Weise w٧rde die Kenntnis des Namens
einer Person von Abschnitt 1 zu dem Land, dem Institut und den Forschungsaktivitδten f٧hren;
Informationen ٧ber ein bestimmtes Institut - die dort arbei tenden Personen und die Forschungsaktivitδten
- w٧rden bei Abschnitt 2 beginnen.
