Sandra A. Almeida, M.D., M.P.H., is a board-certified preventive
medicine physician with a specialty in exercise medicine and
musculoskeletal injury management. She is the assistant coordinator
of the Sports & Exercise Medicine Track of the UCSD-SDSU General
Preventive Medicine Residency Program. She also works as an expert
consultant to the U.S. military and private industry in the areas of
exercise research, injury prevention and management, and exercise-
program development.
Peter M. Aufsesser, Ph.D., is the director of the Fitness Clinic for
Individuals with Disabilities at San Diego State University. In
addition, he is the coordinator of the adapted physical education
program and the pre-physical therapy advisor.
Brock Beamer, M.D., received his graduate medical and geriatric
fellowship training at the Johns Hopkins University School of
Medicine, separated by Internal Medicine residency and chief-
residency at the UCLA-San Fernando Valley Program. Dr. Beamer
currently is an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of
Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology at Johns Hopkins University
School of Medicine. He is supported in part by The Brookdale
Foundation.
Christine "CC" Cunningham, M.S., is an NATABOC-certified athletic
trainer with extensive experience as a personal trainer. Formerly the
director of programming for First Fitness, Inc., she is now a private
consultant specializing in fitness-program development and education.
She is a frequent writer and lecturer and an American Council on
Exercise Master Practical Trainer.
Scott D. Flinn, M.D., is the director of the Sports Medicine Clinic at
Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. He is a board-
certified family practice physician, and completed his Primary Care
Sports Medicine Fellowship at Sharp/San Diego Family and Sports
Medicine affiliated with Stanford University.
Laura A. Gladwin, M.S., is president of LGA Fitness Consulting,
Fairport, N.Y., which specializes in senior-fitness program
development. She also is a special advisor to the California
Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, serving on the
Older Adult Committee. Ms. Gladwin chairs the Board of
Certification and Training for AFAA and is a former faculty of the
Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotions and Senior Fitness
Certificate Program at California State University, Fullerton. She is an
author and international presenter with more than 25 years experience.
Carol Mae Gordon, Ph.D., P.T., O.C.S., is a private practice physical
therapist with 25 years of experience. She is certified as Orthopedic
Clinical Specialist by the A.P.T.A. and earned her doctorate in
neurophysiology from Northwestern University.
Angela S. Guarda, M.D., is assistant professor of medicine at Johns
Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., and director of the Eating and
Weight Disorders Program at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
Dr. Guarda is a board-certified psychiatrist who specializes in the
treatment of bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa and binge eating.
Mark Jackman, Ph.D., owns LIFE SIGNS HEALTH FITNESS in
sm
Durham, N.C., providing fitness, weight management and lifestyle
coaching for individuals, many who possess health challenges. He
earned his doctorate from Duke University where he conducted
epidemiological research in occupational stress. Dr. Jackman is an
ACE-certified Personal Trainer and Lifestyle & Weight Management
Consultant, was involved in development of the CES Exam and has
written articles for ACE.
Glen Morgan, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist currently with the
National Institutes of Health in Rockville, Md. He has more than 14
years of experience as a professor of family medicine and as a
practicing clinician. His research has focused upon preventive
behavioral medicine, with special emphasis in primary-care
interventions
David C. Nieman, Dr.P.H., is a professor of health and exercise
science, and director of the Human Performance Laboratory at
Appalachian State University, Boone, N.C. He is the author of seven
books on exercise, nutrition and health.
Thomas G. O'Connell, M.S., A.T.CJL., is the head athletic trainer at
Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, Ill. He has served on
the High School Athletic Trainers' Association and the National
Athletic Trainers' Association.
Naresh M. Punjabi, M.D., is a senior postdoctoral fellow in the
Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins

University. He completed his undergraduate training in biomedical
engineering at Northwestern University and attended medical school
at the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. He is
currently enrolled in the Graduate Training Program in Clinical
Investigation at the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and
Public Health.
J. Mark Roberts, M.D., is associated with the Allan McGauin Sports
Medicine Center at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in
Vancouver, B.C. Dr. Roberts received his B.S. in zoology from the
University of California, Davis, his medical degree and residency in
internal medicine from the University of California, San Diego, and a
fellowship in sports medicine at UBC. He is a diplomat of the
American Board of Internal Medicine and the Canadian Academy of
Sports Medicine.
Brad A. Roy, Ph.D., FAC.SS.M, is the director of The Summit,
Kalispell Regional Medical Center's 117,000-square-foot facility for
health promotion and fitness in Kalispell, Mont. Dr. Roy has more
than 20 years of experience working with clinical patients in the
rehabilitation setting and has successfully consulted with numerous
world-class athletes. He received a bachelor's degree in physical
education from Point Loma Nazarene College, a master's degree in
exercise physiology from San Diego State University and his
doctorate in exercise physiology from Columbia Pacific University.
Christine Seidl is an adapted physical education teacher at the Summit
School for Developmentally Disabled Children in Ville St. Laurent,
Quebec. She also is a member of the Leadership Development
Initiative for People with a Disability for the Canadian Society for
Exercise Physiology.
Janet M. Shaw, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of
Exercise and Sports Science at the University of Utah. She helped
develop an instructional exercise video for the Oregon State
University Extension Service for a statewide educational program
titled "Women and Osteoporosis."
Bradford H. Stiles, M.D., is a primary care and sports medicine
physician at the University of California, San Diego, Medical Center,
and is a staff physician at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center,
Department of Occupational Medicine.
