This book fills a gap in the literature on evidence-based approaches for treating
adolescents with chronic illness in an integrated care setting. It is comprehensive
inaccuratelyaddressingspecificconsiderationsinherentinadolescentpsychology
(therapistburnout,ethicalconsiderations,bringinginthefamily,culturalconsid-
erations, etc.) and in outlining evidence-based practice guidelines for common
chronic conditions in adolescence (type I diabetes, asthma, juvenile rheumatoid
arthritis,chronicpain,etc.).Thereareverydifficultproblemsthatneedtobesorted
out and we hope this book, while reflecting the current state of knowledge, will
encourageresearchandintellectualworkinthisarea.
