TheauthorshavebeenstudyingonTaiwanesedungbeetles for thesefiveyears,
particularlyonthespeciesofthesubfamilyScarabaeinae.Inthefirstpartofthisseries
(MAsUMoToeta1.,2004a), they describedtwonewOnt/1ophagusspecies fromTai-
wan.Inthesecondpart(MAsUMoToett1/.,2004b),theyalsodescribed twoothernew
species,anOnthophagusandaSinod1・ep(;1nus,andmalespecimensoftwoknown0n-
thophagusspecies.
In the thirdpart, theyaregoing todescribeanew Onthop/1agusspeciesand a
maleofCassolusgotoiMAsUMoTo,1986,andtodesignatethelectotypeforOnthopha-
gust1lrmalisGILLET, l924.Finally,theyaregoingtoregardOnt1?ophagushlu1・a10cHl,
1984asasubspeciesof 0.potant川KABAKov,1979.

Brownishblack,anteriormarginofheadandlegsdarkreddishbrown,antennal
footstalks,mouthpartsandgulalighterincolour;headandpronotumwithfeebledark
coppery lustre, elytra gently, somewhat vitreously shining; each surface almost
glabrous.Bodyovateandcompact,gentlyconvexabove.
Male. Headslightly transverse, ratherstrongly punctate;clypeusgently in-
clinedanteriad,withapicalmarginweaklyre?exedinfrontandangulateoneachside,
fronto-clypeal borderproducedanteriadand feeblyraised; genae(ocular lobes)ob-
tuselyangulatelaterad, fronto-genalandclypeo-gena1borderscontinuouslysulcate,the
sulcationsreachingoutermargins; fronssomewhat triangular,withbasalpartdeeply
concave,theconcavityreachingvertex;vertexwithapairofuprighthornsatthemid-
dleofeyes,ofwhichposteriorpartsareconnectedwitheachother inthemiddleof
vertex,andanteriorpartsextendtofronto-genalsulcations.
Pronotumtransverse(7:5),gentlynarrowedapicad;apexmoderatelyandwidely
emarginate, witha short, membranous part attached in medial 1/6; base almost
rounded,slightlyangulateat themiddle;sidesrathersteeplydeclinedtolateralmar-
gins,whicharefinelyrimmed; frontanglesobtuse hindanglesrounded:discrather
closelypunctate,thepuncturesincentralpartnotsolarge, feeblyovate,thoseinlateral
partsbecomingcloserandcoarser.
Elytrashallowlypunctate-striate, thestriaefinelyridgedoneachside, thepunc-
turesinstriaeseeminglytransverseundertowmagnification,butactuallytheyconsist
ofapairasconfirmedunderhighmagnification(X30-40);intervalsratherwide,gent-
lyconvex,scatteredwithsmallpunctures,weakly,irregularlywrinkled.
Pygidiumgentlyconvex, rimmed,scatteredwithshallowumbilicatepunctures.
Metasternumgentlytriangularlyinclinedinanteriorpart,metasterna1shieldpunctate,
thepuncturesinmedialpartbecomingsparser,withashallowgroovealongthemid-
lineinposterior i/4.
Legsratherbold;protibiawithfourouterteeth;terminalspurboldlypointedand
gentlycurvedventrad;ratiosofthelengthsofmetatarsomeresandterminalspurof
metatibia: 1.00,0.48,0.35,0.26,0.48;0.81.
Female. Ascomparedwithmale, fronto-clypea1ridgelonger,posteriorpartof
fronsand vertexgently raised,withgentledeclivityalongtheborderoftheanterior
