Transition Overview
In Fall 2015, the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts (BCLA) will transition to a four-unit
standard curriculum. The transition means that future courses offered by BCLA are offered for
four units instead of the current three units.

This shift in BCLA course units will impact you because every student takes courses from
BCLA to fulfill their Core curriculum.

Quick Facts about the Transition

Elements of your curriculum that WILL NOT Change:
 Your timeline to graduation.
 The total units current students need to graduate (120 units, except for specific programs in Seaver College).
 The number of units required for full-time status (12 units), though most students take 15-16 units to graduate
in four years.
 Your Core curriculum area requirements and flags remain the same.
 The maximum number of units you are allowed to enroll in each semester (17 units; Seaver: 18 units).
 The policy allowing you to double-major or minor. Your ability to double-major or minor is determined by the
requirements of your primary major. Please contact your advisor to discuss your academic planning.
 Previously transferred units remain the same.
 The number of units you may take during summer school (two courses; 8 units).

Changes to the Core Curriculum

More About Flags
Flagged courses reinforce the skills and critical thinking that students have obtained in the Foundations Core
courses. Flagged courses appear at the 200-level or higher. Flags may be attached to courses that fulfill your
major, minor, Core, or elective requirements. Students are especially encouraged to take flagged courses within
their major or minor fields of study. One course may carry up to two flags.
As part of the Core, no changes have been
made to flag requirements.

In the “Student Services” tab on PROWL, click on
“Registration,” and then “Check Your Registration Status” to
find your primary advisor, check holds, and more.

You can also see your advisor’s name when you run a CAPP
report from the “Student Records” menu in PROWL. Use the
LMU Directory to find your advisor’s contact information.

Preparing for Registration
Use the blank tools on the following pages alongside the four-year plan for your major to build
your own personal plan for graduation. Bring your drafts to your next advising appointment.
Using the Schedule of Classes
Log in to the MyLMU Portal and click on the Schedule of Classes link in
the “Shortcuts” box on the left-hand side of the page.

After selecting the term, you can search by department, or click the “All
Subjects” box and choose a Core or Flag category. Your search results
will show every course that fulfills the Core area you select.

Perform the same search in PROWL using the “Advanced Search.”
Drafting Your Fall 2015 Schedule
Once you have reviewed the four-year plan for your major and identified the next courses you should
take, review the Schedule of Classes and write down the details for potential classes. Include more
options than you will actually take, so you will have alternative sections if your first choices are closed.

Additional Notes for BCLA Students:
 In this guide you will find a new four-year plan for your major. This plan is for BCLA students in your major
who enter LMU in Fall 2015; these new incoming students will be required to complete 124 units to graduate.
 Continuing students will maintain the requirement of 120 units to graduate. Your personal pathway to
graduation will be a combination of 3-unit and 4-unit courses.
 You will find a transition worksheet for your major, with your current required coursework on the left, and
the new 4-unit requirements on the right. Please read these worksheets carefully.
