Liebe Leserinnen, im Jahr 2005 sind mit der Exzellenzinitiative I des Bundes und der Länder neue
Impulse für die Weiterentwicklung der deutschen Hochschullandschaft gesetzt

wickelt und neue Konzepte erprobt wurden. Inzwischen zeigen sich bereits nach-
haltig positive Veränderungen an den deutschen Hochschulen.
Ein bundesweit herausragendes Beispiel ist die Hannover Biomedical Research
School (HBRS) der Medizinischen Hochschule Hannover (MHH). Mit ihrem inter-
disziplinären Ansatz und ihrem breiten Fächerspektrum in der Biomedizin hat
sie ein überzeugendes Qualifizierungskonzept vorgelegt. Die MHH hat – ihrer
Position als eine der führenden medizinischen Einrichtungen Deutschlands ver-
pflichtet – bereits im Jahr 2000 die Grundlagen für den heutigen Erfolg gelegt.
Die HBRS ist im Gesamtkontext der biomedizinischen Forschung ein wichtiger
Baustein. Sie leistet einen wesentlichen Beitrag zum wissenschaftlichen Profil
der MHH, da sie sich direkt in die Schwerpunktbildung einpasst. Darüber hin-
aus stärkt sie auch die internationale Sichtbarkeit des Wissenschaftsstandortes
Hannover.
Die biomedizinische Forschung ist in Niedersachsen gut aufgestellt. Dabei hat
sich Hannover mit seiner einzigartigen Verbindung aus medizinischer, natur-
und ingenieurwissenschaftlicher Forschung zu einem europaweit bedeutsamen
Standort der „Life Sciences” entwickelt.
Den Wissenschaftlern der Hannover Biomedical Research School wünsche ich
viel Erfolg – nicht nur bei ihrer Forschung, sondern auch bei der späteren prakti-
schen Umsetzung der Ergebnisse zum Nutzen der Patienten.
