Abstract Twonewlycidbeetles.Platerossato1sp novandP teruhisaisp nov
aredescribedfromAmami-0shimaandKume-jimaIslands,KagoshimaandOkinawa
Prefectures, theRyukyuIslands,SouthwestJapan. Akeytotheknownspeciesof the
genusPlaterosoccurringintheRyukyuIslandsisgiven.
TheRyukyufaunaoftheLycidaehasbeenstudiedbyNAKANE(1961,1969,1985),
SAT0&0HBAYASHI (1968),CHOJ0&SAT0(1970),MATSUDA(1985,1992)andSAT0
& MATsUDA (1985). Eleven speciesof thegenusPlaterosBOURGEOIS, 1879have
hithertobeen recorded fromthearchipelago.
Recently, theauthor hadanopportunitytoexamineatotalof58specimensof
PlateroscollectedonAmami-0shimaandKume-jimaIslands. Astheresultofcareful
taxonomicexamination, hefoundtwonewPlaterosspeciesamongthem.
In thepresentpaper,thesetwonewspecies,Platerossato1andP teruhisai, willbe
describedwithshort taxonomicnotesandetymology. Thispaper isdedicatedtothe
memoryofthelateDr.MasatakaSAT0,whocontributedtotheclarificationofthelycid
faunaoftheRyukyu Islands.
