About Río de la muerte
Las aguas del Pecos en las primeras millas de su nacimiento, bañaban las tierras del Fronterizo, propiedad de los Cramer, situado en la orilla oeste. En la opuesta, y con una extensión, en acres, muy similar, hallábase la propiedad de los Vernon. Esta se conocía con el nombre de rancho-Vernon. Desde la fundación de ambos ranchos las respectivas familias estaban en continua discordia. Formaban la primera familia, el padre, dos hijos y una hija que por cierto a ésta, se la consideraba como la mujer más bonita desde Las Vegas, pueblo situado a orillas del Pecos, hasta Santa Fe, capital del territorio de Nuevo México. Los nombres de los respectivos hombres, por orden de edades, eran los siguientes: Jack, Guy, Phill y Senta.
