Th omas Green Morton in Boston am 16. Oktober 1846 der genaue Wirkmechanismus von Anästhe-
tika weiterhin ungeklärt ist?
5 Wussten Sie, dass die Daten zur perioperativen Kortisonsubstitution bei mit Kortison dauerbehan-
delten Patienten im Wesentlichen aus zwei Fallberichten aus den 1950er Jahren stammen?
5 Wussten Sie, dass bei einer Sectio caesarea nach einer unkomplizierten Schwangerschaft bereits mit
1,0 IE Oxytocin eine ausreichende Uteruskontraktion erreicht werden kann?

Anästhesie, Intensivmedizin und die angrenzenden Fächer sind faszinierende Felder im Bereich der
Pharmakologie. Wie alle medizinischen Bereiche sind sie einem permanenten Wandel aufgrund neu-
er Forschungsergebnisse und evidenzbasierter Leitlinien unterworfen. Um so wichtiger ist es, auf dem
Laufenden zu bleiben und den Anschluss zu halten. Das vorliegende Buch soll Sie anregen, es soll
Lücken schließen, es soll vertiefen, es soll Ihnen aber auch die Faszination der Pharmakologie in der
Akutmedizin vermitteln.
D ieses Buch richtet sich an Ärztinnen und Ärzte in Weiterbildung zur Erlangung des zur Facharzt-
prüfung notwendigen Wissens sowie auch an Fachärztinnen und Fachärzte, die mit ihrem Wissen auf
dem Laufenden bleiben wollen. Namhaft e Expertinnen und Experten konnten als Autoren gewonnen
werden, um auf ihren jeweiligen Spezialgebieten einen aktuellen Überblick über die Pharmakotherapie
zu geben: Das Buch ist in drei Teile unterteilt.
5 Im ersten Teil werden allgemeine pharmakologische Grundprinzipien besprochen, die die Grund-
lage für das Verständnis der Wirkung von in der Anästhesie und Intensivmedizin gebräuchlichen
Medikamenten darstellen. So werden Grundzüge der Pharmakokinetik ebenso dargestellt wie die
Eff ekte von Medikamenten auf Rezeptorebene und auch deren Beeinfl ussung durch genetische
Faktoren, die die Grundlagen einer zukünft igen maßgeschneiderten Th erapie für den individuellen
Patienten darstellen. Nicht zuletzt wird auch über den »Geburtsweg« von Medikamenten berichtet,
von der ersten Entdeckung eines Wirkprinzips bis zum Th erapeutikum in der Spritze in der Hand
eines Anästhesisten.
5 Im zweiten Teil des Buchs werden die Medikamente, die in Anästhesie und Intensivmedizin ange-
wendet werden, erläutert.
5 Schließlich wird im dritten Teil die Anwendung der Medikamente bzw. Th erapieprinzipien darge-
stellt. Auch die Pathophysiologie fl ießt in diesem Teil mit ein. Übergänge zu Darstellungen in Lehr-
büchern der allgemeinen Anästhesie und Intensivmedizin sind fl ießend und auch gewollt, so eignet
sich das vorliegende Buch auch als Ergänzung zu den großen Standardwerken.
D ie Herausgeber bedanken sich allen voran bei allen Autorinnen und Autoren für deren Einsatz wäh-
rend des langen Entstehungsprozess des Buches; ebenso bedanken wir uns beim Springer Verlag und
allen Mitarbeitern, die auch Hintergrund an dem Werk beteiligt waren, insbesondere bei Frau Hart-
mann, die sich unermüdlich um die Umsetzung des Projekts gekümmert hat und für die großartige
