About Exploring Financial Management Practices of Small
This dissertation explores the financial management practices of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria. The author, Alero Obazee, conducted a qualitative case study to understand how experienced SME owners can develop the necessary financial management skills to sustain their businesses in Edo State, Nigeria. Fifteen SME owners in Edo State were interviewed about their knowledge and experience with financial management. Through analysis of the interview data, several themes emerged regarding effective financial management strategies for SMEs, including strategic accounting practices, financial planning knowledge, hiring an accountant, record keeping, obtaining accounting education, and embracing technology and financial management software.
