THE EDITOR
Dr. Chris Curtis is a member of the British Medical Research Council's External Sci-
entific Staff and is based at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where
he is Reader in Medical Entomology.
He graduated in Zoology at Oxford in 1961 and obtained a Ph.D. in Genetics at Edin-
burgh, Scotland, in 1966. He worked on genetic methods for tsetse control at Langford,
Bristol U.K., and was geneticist at the W.H.O./I.C.M.R. Research Unit on the Genetic
Control of Mosquitoes, New Delhi, India, from 1972 to 1975. Subsequently, he carried out
theoretical work on the management of insecticide resistance, with related practical work
in Sri Lanka, Sudan, and Zanzibar. He now works mainly on appropriate (intermediate)
technology for mosquito control with two on-going field projects in Tanzania and with some
field experience in Latin America also. He has published over 130 papers and reviews.
