Chapter 784: Long Discussion
Nancy’s words indeed frightened her, she looked at Xu Ke and couldn’t help but retreat, but where could she go on the couch with such limited space.
"You’re trying to scare me, right? You wouldn’t really do anything to me, if you really did something like this to me, my dad wouldn’t let you off." Nancy was too nervous, which made her voice become a bit dry and tense as she spoke.
"Who knows that the person you came out to meet is me? I could kill you and still live freely." Xu Ke raised an eyebrow at Nancy, speaking with a slightly indifferent tone.
"You don’t think no one knows I came to see you, do you?" Nancy controlled her facial expression, chuckling dryly before saying, "If you think that way, then you’re gravely mistaken. Several people know I came to see you, and if I don’t return home on time today, they’ll know something’s happened and come looking for you."
"Do you think this trick can fool me? Don’t be naive, you wouldn’t have told anyone else about coming to see me, if you did, you would only tell your maid, telling others is not your style." Xu Ke’s firm tone instantly chilled Nancy’s heart.
Nancy bit her lip unconsciously, even biting hard enough for it to bleed, her body trembling uncontrollably.
She thought she was still afraid, afraid of death. Even though her heart surged with hatred towards Xu Ke, she still couldn’t help but tremble.
"Afraid? This is just the beginning, being so scared is not a good sign." Xu Ke taunted.
"Trust me, I won’t let it hurt too much. I have the experience to be quick and efficient, you just have to endure a little bit." Xu Ke gestured roughly with his thumb and forefinger, and just as he finished speaking, reached out two fingers, his face wickedly smiling, and was about to poke Nancy’s eyes.
As Xu Ke’s fingers got closer to Nancy’s eyes, her breath unknowingly stopped.
Xu Ke’s fingers stopped half an inch from Nancy’s eyes, "Tsk." Xu Ke clicked his tongue, not expecting that just a few words from him would make someone faint with fear.
Xu Ke straightened his back, looked at Nancy twice, and then turned to leave.
In the room next to the one Xu Ke had booked, five or six people lay sprawled around, if Nancy woke up now and came next door, she would find among them her maid. However, these people weren’t all dead as Xu Ke said, but were in a deep sleep.
Xu Ke left the motel, and before returning to his own lodging, he was taken away by people sent by Claude.
"Have you eaten?" Claude asked as he saw Xu Ke walk in.
"Not yet." Xu Ke wasn’t shy, he sat across from Claude as if he were at home, giving orders to Claude’s new butler.
The new butler glanced at Claude, and seeing that Claude didn’t oppose it, went to the kitchen with Xu Ke’s request.
"I didn’t expect you’d like a steak cooked rare, many can’t stand it, I thought you wouldn’t like it." Claude seemed a bit surprised by Xu Ke’s choice.
"I hadn’t tried a rare steak before, until I had one once, and it was astounding." Xu Ke’s tone was somewhat exaggerated, but it was clear Claude appreciated Xu Ke’s bravery, especially since Xu Ke shared the same tastes and opinions, making Claude’s already kind eyes seem even friendlier.
"As long as you like it." Claude smiled more genuinely, and soon the new butler returned with a tray, the crimson meat paired with a stark white cloth embroidered with dark patterns and fresh flowers in a vase, making it all seem somewhat eerily surreal.
The steak was placed in front of Xu Ke, and the silverware sliced into the meat in front of him, the raw smell rushing toward Xu Ke, yet he seemed unfazed, cutting the steak into small pieces, skillfully drizzling sauce over them before putting them into his mouth, even half-closing his eyes in satisfaction.
Claude watched Xu Ke’s reaction, his eyes filled with growing amusement, the more he looked at Xu Ke, having already a favorable opinion, the more pleasing he found him.
After finishing the meal, Xu Ke accompanied Claude for a walk in the garden until night fell, and then Claude led him to the study.
"Do you know why I called you here?" Claude personally brewed a cup of tea for Xu Ke.
"Is it because of recent events?" Xu Ke was cautious and didn’t mention Nancy coming to see him to Claude.
"Yes." Claude nodded, the color of the black tea was like amber, making Claude feel a strange satisfaction.
"I’m aware of everything that’s happened to you recently, but I haven’t intervened, are you upset with me?" Claude’s eyes looked directly at Xu Ke, as if to look into his soul.
"No, I’m not." Xu Ke shook his head.
"Why aren’t you upset? Even before you were targeted, I knew they were going to target you, but I didn’t send anyone to warn you. Later, when you were attacked, I didn’t stop it, instead, I allowed it to happen. Aren’t you angry, don’t you resent me, or regret following me?" Claude continued to ask.
No normal person, when hearing such things, could remain calm. Such situations to anyone would feel like abandonment and betrayal; no one could tolerate being abandoned or betrayed.
But surprisingly, Xu Ke’s face never showed any displeasure, even though Claude was watching closely, he didn’t see any negative emotions or dissatisfaction with him.
This piqued Claude’s interest in Xu Ke, "Why do you look not at all surprised?"
"I’m not surprised because when I agreed to stand behind you, I already anticipated today’s situation. Since it’s expected, there’s nothing unexpected. Besides, even if you hadn’t called for me today, I would have come. I’ve dealt with most of the assassins around me, these are their confessions implicating the mastermind as well as other evidence. I believe you might need this."
After Xu Ke finished, he took out a USB from his pocket, handing it to Claude through the butler.
Claude looked at the small USB in his hand and laughed out loud.
