Chapter 776: The First Person to Eat Crab

The man pressed his watch to light it up and, following the faint glow, saw the time clearly. However, as each second passed, the person in the bathroom showed no intention of coming out. The sound of running water continued, and the man’s heart began to grow uneasy, feeling that something seemed to have exceeded his expectations.
That shouldn’t be the case. He was very careful when he came in, didn’t touch anything, so he shouldn’t have been detected. The man was a bit nervous, unconsciously biting his nails, replaying every action since he came in and confirming for sure that he hadn’t missed anything.
The man stayed under the bed for a little longer, thinking Xu Ke would come out soon, but after ten minutes, the sound of water in the bathroom still continued. Finally, he couldn’t resist slowly crawling out from under the bed, moving like a worm, making no sound at all.
"You finally came out. I thought you weren’t planning to come out at all tonight." Xu Ke’s voice came from above the man’s head.
The man looked in the direction of the voice, but before he could see Xu Ke’s face clearly, Xu Ke’s fist came down on him. His body’s reaction was faster than his mind. Before his brain could register what happened, his body automatically evaded one of Xu Ke’s punches by tilting his head, but he couldn’t avoid the second punch. Xu Ke’s second punch came with great ferocity and landed directly on the man’s nose, causing an instant sharp pain that blurred the man’s vision with tears of reflex.
By rights, the man, although perhaps no match for Xu Ke, wouldn’t be so completely incapable of resisting him. The main reason for his current predicament was that his lower body was still under the bed, which was slightly low, greatly limiting his movements, rendering him helpless like a fish on Xu Ke’s chopping block.
Xu Ke’s punches showed no mercy, each one more vicious than the last, nearly smashing the man’s face to pieces. Blood splattered onto the corner of Xu Ke’s eye, coupled with the madness in his gaze, making him look like a deranged lunatic.
"You dare to hide under my bed and still want to kill me? You’ve got some nerve, truly courting death," Xu Ke said as he continued punching.
The man being punched by Xu Ke could no longer see anything clearly; everything was a blur, different from typical blurring. This time the blurring was accompanied by a headache and tinnitus. He couldn’t clearly hear what Xu Ke was saying; he only felt everything he could see spinning rapidly, making him dizzy.
The man’s body, which had been tense and ready, had now gone limp, like a dead fish, at the mercy of others.
The knife he had held onto hadn’t been used before it was deemed useless, forgotten by its owner but picked up by Xu Ke.
Xu Ke had no intention of asking questions; he directly picked up the knife from beside him and stabbed it into the man’s chest, twisting it harshly. The man, like a fish out of water, convulsed violently, reacting greatly but still couldn’t escape Xu Ke’s grasp or the fate of death.
Xu Ke stretched out his hand, and by this time, his hands were already stained with blood.
Xu Ke coldly watched as the blood slowly oozed out of the man’s body, flowing on the wooden floor, blooming in vibrant colors.
"Why hide in my room? Couldn’t you have taken action outside? Look at this mess; you dirtied my room and left this huge piece of garbage for me to clean up in the middle of the night. It’s really a nuisance," Xu Ke said, dissatisfied, looking at the man’s face he had already smashed.
The man lying on the ground died with his eyes wide open, staring at the chandelier hanging from the ceiling, yet Xu Ke had no intention of dealing with him. Instead, he went into the bathroom to wash up and patiently waited for the next possible arrival. However, whether it was because others were too cautious or this man too reckless, Xu Ke waited until daylight without seeing another.
"I wonder if your fate is good or bad." Xu Ke said, looking at the man’s face that had turned pale. He then calmly and meticulously cleaned up the crime scene and hid the corpse, waiting for another day to dispose of it.
Claude was well aware of the manipulations by these illegitimate children, but he had no intention of helping Xu Ke. The shadow man stood silently behind Claude, looking at the back of Claude’s head.
Without the old butler’s inquiries, Claude felt somewhat unaccustomed for a while.
"Shadow, don’t you think habits can be a frightening thing? I should be indifferent, yet I find myself somewhat nostalgic now. It’s truly frightening," Claude said with a long sigh.
The shadow behind him didn’t speak; he knew Claude now needed just a listener, not someone to answer him.
Claude was not surprised by the shadow’s silence; he had gotten used to such a shadow, just as the shadow had gotten used to him. However, today Claude was somewhat different. Even without answers from the shadow, he didn’t stop as he usually would.
"Do you think I’m somewhat heartless? Xu Ke refused Albo and Job’s recruitment and firmly stayed on my side and is now working diligently for me. It stands to reason I should treat him better, at least even if not solving these dangers for him, I should’ve warned him, yet I did nothing."
"You must have your reasons for doing it this way." The shadow finally spoke, thinking for a bit before speaking softly behind Claude.
"You’re right; I do have my reasons. The main reason I haven’t helped him is that I don’t trust him. He came too suddenly, not only is he skillful, but his psychological quality, business acumen, and decisiveness make him inscrutable and dangerous. I don’t know what purpose he has for being by my side, nor do I know what benefits he gains from it, so how can I trust him?" Claude said, looking at the book in front of him.
The book was open, yet not a word entered his eyes.
Frankly, Xu Ke’s personality, methods, and temperament greatly suit Claude. Each time he sees Xu Ke, Claude feels his heart racing; he can clearly feel that he is alive, that there’s someone like him, that he has kin.
He feels joy at Xu Ke’s appearance but also very wary because he doesn’t know what this person who suddenly appeared in his life is here to do, whether there’s something on him that the other covets, and if so, what it is.
