Belair Rd. was known for it’s “sticky mud” that would pull your
shoes right off of you.

“If a stranger wanted to meet everyone “in town,” he could do it
in ten minutes, for Overlea consisted of a streetcar switch, a
handful of homes, two churches, and the stores.”

“There were no street lights – people got around at night with
lanterns – and there was no public water system.”

“Hundreds of people would come out from the city on the
streetcars for a reunion with their country cousins, who in their
farm wagons packed Overlea Ave, Belair Rd. and the
surrounding fields.”
