ABOUT THE EDITORS
JuliaBuckroydisProfessorofCounsellingattheUniversityofHertfordshire
and Director of the Obesity and Eating Disorders Research Unit. The Unit
was established in 2005 and focuses on the development of psychological
responses to disordered eating of all kinds. She trained first as a counsellor
andthenasapsychotherapistandhasworkedclinicallyinthefieldofeating
disorderssince1984.Herinterestinobesitygrewoutofherworkwitheating
disordered young women and she has brought to it many of the psycholo-
gicalperspectivescurrentinthatfield.Shebegancarryingoutresearchinto
the treatment of obesity in 1999 and has developed an ongoing portfolio of
researchprojects.Shehasco-authored,withSharonRother,TherapeuticGroups
forObeseWomen(2007).
SharonRotherisaLecturerinCounsellingattheUniversityofHertfordshire
and Research Coordinator for the Obesity and Eating Disorders Research
Unit.ShecompletedanMAinCounsellingInquiryforwhichsheinvestigated
recoveryinanorexics.Shetrainedasacounsellorandcurrentlycontinuesa
practice, specialising in working with eating disordered and obese people.
She has worked in the field of obesity research with Julia Buckroyd since
2002.Shehasco-authored,withJuliaBuckroyd,TherapeuticGroupsforObese
Women(2007).

researchforaPhDattheUniversityofHertfordshiredevelopedfromworking
with people with eating disorders and the evidence of repeating behaviour
inclientsandtheirmothers.
VerityByrneisaSeniorDieticianworkingatStAnn’sEatingDisorderUnit,
NorthLondon.Shehasbeenworkinginthespecialistfieldofeatingdisorders
foroverfiveyears,managingaworkloadofin-patientsandout-patientswith
anorexia,bulimiaandbingeeatingdisorder.Withintheservicesheisalsothe
leaddieticianintherehabilitationunitandforstudenttraining.Herspecial
interestinobesityledhertoco-facilitatetheObesityandBingeEatingDisorder
Group,whichwassetupin2001.
EmmaCorstorphineisaClinicalPsychologistwhohasworkedwithpatients
with eating disorders since qualifying from the University of East London
in 2001. She is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Institute of Psychiatry,
London, has published a number of papers in the field of eating disorders
and has spoken at various national and international conferences on the
cognitivebehaviouraltreatmentofeatingdisorders.Sheisalsoco-authorof
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders: A Comprehensive Treatment
Guide(2007).
Patricia Goodspeed Grant is an Assistant Professor of Counseling at
the State University College at Brockport, USA. She has an MS in
Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Springfield College (Mas-
sachusetts) and a doctorate in counseling and human development from
the University of Rochester. She is a qualitative researcher, with expertise
inhermeneuticphenomenology.Shehasmadeseveralinternationalpresen-
tationsinherareasofresearchandpractice,includingthemeaningofwork,
unemploymentandthelossofrelationshipsthroughdeathanddivorce.Her
currentresearchinterestsfocusonthepsychological,socialandculturalas-
pectsoffood,eatingandmorbidobesity.
