LYN STONE
a painter of historical events, decided to write about them. A canvas, however
detailed, limits characters to only one moment in time. “If a picture’s worth a
thousand words, the other ninety thousand have to show up somewhere!”
An avid readers, she admits, “At thirteen, I fell in love with Brontë’s Heathcliff
and became Catherine. Next year I fell for Rhett and became Scarlett. Then I fell
for the hero I’d known most of my life and finally became myself.”
After living for four years in Europe, Lyn and her husband, Allen, settled into a
log house in north Alabama that is crammed to the rafters with antiques, artifacts
and the stuff of future tales.
GAIL RANSTROM
was born and raised in Missoula, Montana, and grew up spending the long
winters lost in the pages of books that took her to exotic locales and interesting
times. That love of the “inner voyage” eventually led to her writing.
She has three children, Natalie, Jay and Katie, who are her proudest
accomplishments. Part of a truly bicoastal family, she resides in Southern
California with her two terriers, Piper and Ally, and has family spread from
Alaska to Florida.
ANNE O’BRIEN
was born and lived for most of her life in Yorkshire, England. Here she taught
history, before deciding to fulfill a lifetime ambition to write romantic historical
fiction. She won a number of short story competitions until published for the
first time by Harlequin®.
As well as writing, she finds time to enjoy gardening, cooking and watercolor
painting. She now lives with her husband in an eighteenth-century cottage in the
depths of the Welsh Marches.

Dear Reader The process by which two people become a couple has always
fascinated me. Marriage, even in the best of circumstances, takes a huge amount
of work, hope and determination to succeed. In medieval times, those of the
upper classes rarely had much choice in the matter. How would you cope if
someone else chose a mate for you? A virtual stranger? Remember that this was
a business deal—divorce was not an option and love rarely a consideration. It
was truly death till you parted. Would you rail against fate, or do your utmost to
create a loving relationship?
In A BOUQUET OF THISTLES I give you a couple who were amiably
betrothed at a very young age, but then were changed by war and circumstance
into two very different and headstrong individuals. When Alys and John finally
meet as adults, can they “make” love out of a young girl’s fantasies and a
