Lake Education Assistance Program (LEAP)
Background The Lake Education Assistance Program (LEAP) supports
the education of Illinois citizens concerning Illinois inland
lakes and their watersheds through formal and non-formal
educators. The funds may be used to purchase and/or
produce lake related educational materials, equipment with
which to study lakes, transportation to lakes and attendance
at lake related conferences and workshops.
Program Funding With the passage of Conservation 2000, funds were made
available to the Illinois EPA’s Lakes Unit. An appropriation
of $50,000 annually was made to support LEAP.
Eligibility All schools and certified not-for-profit organizations in the
state of Illinois are eligible to apply.
Terms of Grant LEAP funds are made available in grants of up to $500.
Grants may be applied for and received during two funding
cycles during the same fiscal year. Funding is in the form of
reimbursement. All paid receipts and projects reports are to
be submitted to the Illinois EPA by June 30 of the award
year in order to receive reimbursement.
Grant Application LEAP applications must be filed a Illinois EPA on or before
the end of each application period, dates being September
30 and January 31.
