<p>L’immagine del corpo come “tempio”, come luogo sacro, si riverbera comune in molte culture:</p><p>ne parla Ippocrate e la premette al dovere di curare il corpo e di rispettarlo sempre<span>2</span>; sotto un</p><p>diverso aspetto, nella prima Lettera ai Corinzi, Paolo da Tarso afferma che il corpo è il tempio</p><p>dello Spirito Santo che è in voi<span>3</span>: prima di lui nel vangelo di Giovanni, Gesù parla del proprio</p><p>corpo come tempio che in tre giorni farà risorgere<span>4</span>; Abdu’l Bahà sostiene che «l’uomo è un</p><p>tempio di Dio, non è un tempio umano»<span>5</span>. Queste, ciascuna sommamente autorevole all’interno</p><p>della propria tradizione di pensiero, sono solo alcune tra le numerose testimonianze di una</p><p>metafora che si è riverberata sotto molte latitudini, in occidente come in oriente: l’analogia con il</p><p>corpo umano riguarda sia la forma della chiesa medievale, sia quella del tempio induista.</p><p>Agli inizi del sec. XIV, Durando da Mende scrive:</p><p>La disposizione materiale della chiesa rappresenta il corpo umano, perché il cancello o il luogo in cui si trova</p><p>l’altare rappresenta la testa, e la croce, da una parte all’altra, le braccia e le mani; infine, l’altra parte che si</p><p>sviluppa a Occidente rappresenta il resto del corpo<span>6</span>.</p><p>E talvolta è una metafora così stringente da fare apparire i due termini quasi sinonimi:</p><p>come il tempio è dimora della divinità, così – diversamente consacrato, diversamente purificato –</p><p>lo è il corpo<span>7</span>. Di questo accostamento tra tempio e corpo al di là del richiamo dotto che se ne può</p><p>fare, al di là di un’evocazione poetica, cosa resta oggi?</p>
