TheIllinois DepartmentofNatural Resources is pleased
to publish the 1999 spring/summer edition of Craft
Events in Illinois. Crafting is part of our artistic
heritage, as well as our economy, and we urge you to
support this wonderful aspect ofournatural resources.
This guide, compiled and editedby the Illinois Artisans
ProgramoftheIllinois StateMuseum, is dedicated to all
thefineartisans ofIllinois. It highlights the many fairs,
fests, exhibits, and craftdemonstrations sponsored by
towns, schools, museums and parks forthe public.
Youwillwanttousethisbookto discoverthe range and
richness ofthe craft industry inour state. Every region
ofthe statetakes pride incelebrating theirown special
craft traditions. By attending the events listed in Craft
Events inIllinois, youwilltap into some ofthat richness

About the Illinois Artisans Program
The Illinois Artisans Program of the Illinois State
Museumproduces andpublishes CraftEvents inIllinois
as part ofits ongoing missionto promotethefinecraft
ofIllinois.
TheArtisans Programprovides support for 1500juried
artisans who live and work in Illinois, by marketing
their work through Artisans Shops and Museum Gift
Shops. (See page 31 of this book.) It sponsors
demonstrations, festivals, workshops, exhibits and
artists’ presentations at each location. Inadditionto this
outreachprogram, itpublishes CraftEvents inIllinois to
inform the public of other craft activities they can
attend.
Thousands of copies of Craft Events are distributed
through tourism centers, craft organizations, state
agencies and libraries. The Illinois Artisans Program
distributes through its shop locations, museum shops
and its artist membership.
TheArtisans Program also acknowledges the assistance
